The joy of drinking beer and attentiveness to yoga complement each other and give a boost of vigor, ”says the website of Emilia and Julia, German women who teach classes in this unusual direction.

This direction of yoga originated in the United States in 2014 and is now gaining popularity all over the world. Beer yoga was especially popular in the USA, Germany and Australia. Such classes are also held in the capital of Latvia – Riga. It would seem that this is an interesting entertainment. But in fact – and work! After all, participants in such activities first of all should concentrate on not spilling the foamy drink and keeping it in various positions. During these sessions, participants, in particular, make sure to practice such a posture as balancing on one leg with a beer bottle on their head.

Despite the fact that the representatives of classical yoga are not very happy with this interpretation of the ancient and respected teaching, in many European countries the use of beer in exercise has long been a common practice. This is explained by the fact that yoga practice implies liberation and complete freedom from stereotypes. 

 

And the correspondent of kurjer.info Ksenia Safronova attended one of the beer yoga classes in Bonn. Here are some of the reviews she shared: “There is a bag of chilled beer on the floor: during practice, those who wish to take a supplement, you have to pay after. Almost all poses here are performed with a bottle in hand, and the most advanced can drink directly during asanas. You can laugh, fall, drink with neighbors on the rug. We start with balances. Usually such poses are performed at the end of classes, but after a couple of bottles, hardly anyone can keep balance. I only think about how not to drop the slippery bottle on the floor.

It seems that the most difficult poses are behind, but the yogi-brewer shows a new exercise: you need to tiptoe the rug and clink glasses with another participant. We do a few laps. Of course, you need to drink every time. After this grueling task, beer yogis reach for their cooler bag for more. It seems that someone in the last row has already opened the third bottle, and in the first one they are losing balance. 

At the end of the practice, the teacher explains how he brews beer with friends and promises to bring a new beer next time. ”

And summarizes: “Such classes are rather an option for those who do not want to seriously practice yoga. It is also an opportunity to drink beer in an unusual setting. ”
