Self-tanner: for golden skin all summer long
Its application is a real headache! False
For the face, it’s super easy! Apply the product to very dry skin, spread evenly with both hands and above all, massage using small circular movements until complete penetration. If your hair is fair, blend well at the roots and on the eyebrows with a cotton disc or Coton-Tige®. Wash your hands and wait 20 minutes before applying makeup. Practical, night plans without transfer allow you to skip this step. For the body, the application requires a little more expert hand, as there are more areas of thick skin. The day before, scrub with a grain exfoliant.
A self-tanner is never organic. False.
Self-tanning active ingredients (DHA or erythrulose) are sugars of natural origin, extracted from cereals (rapeseed) or chestnut bark, fully accepted by organic labels.
It dehydrates the skin. True.
DHA (or dihydroxyacetone, self-tanning active) tends to dry out the epidermis, which is why good brands include moisturizing agents (glycerin, shea butter, vegetable oils, etc.) in their formulas.
On the face, the result is really natural
For that, choose a version “progressive tan”, well in your complexion (clear or mat). You will therefore have no risk of turning orange. You will get a delicate tan, the one your skin sports after a sunny weekend. Then, it’s up to you to modulate its frequency, according to the desired result: every day for a sustained tan, twice a week for a slight “sun kissed” effect.
If I don’t have pretty skin, a tinted formula is better. True.
Due to the oxidation that it causes, the self-tanner brings out the defects of the skin (blackheads, dilated pores…). In this case, prefer a treatment with golden micropigments which warms the complexion immediately. Or self-tanning capsules (Œnobiol, Forte-Pharma, Doriance, etc.) which are less immediate, but allow you to brown on the face as well as on the body, in about a month.
Its smell is frankly not pleasant. False.
It used to be, but not anymore. The brands made real progress in 2015 in terms of perfumes, as well as textures. The latest self-tanners smell really good.
