Refrigerator seal: how to replace it? Video

Unfortunately, the service life of the refrigerator, declared by the manufacturer, does not always correspond to the actual period of operation of the device without repair. Among the various malfunctions that occur over time in the refrigerator compartment, the most common is a violation of the low temperature regime. Most often this occurs as a result of wear of the sealing rubber, which needs to be replaced.

Replace the seal in the refrigerator

Failure of the seal leads to an increase in temperature in the refrigerator chambers, which adversely affects its operation. Over time, the seal can deform and even break through in an inconspicuous place. Warm air begins to penetrate through these holes into the freezer and refrigerator chambers. Of course, a minor defect will not greatly affect the shelf life of products, but the service life of the unit directly depends on the tight fit of the seal to the body, since in the continuous struggle with the rapidly rising temperature, the refrigerator will have to start the compressor more often.

To check the gap between the refrigerator body and the seal, take a strip of paper up to 0,2 mm thick. With a tight and correct fit of rubber to metal, the sheet will not move freely from side to side

If you find that the seal is deformed, try to reanimate it. To do this, warm up the gum with a hair dryer (up to 70 degrees) and stretch it slightly at the location of the gap. Then close the door tightly and wait for the seal to cool down.

If the deformation is large, soak the rubber in hot water. To do this, carefully, avoiding tears, remove the rubber band from the door and return it after the water bath to its place.

How to replace the seal pressed under the door trim

Using a thin screwdriver, carefully pry the edge of the cladding and slowly remove the seal, being careful not to damage it. Then install a new seal. In this case, use one screwdriver to lift the edges of the plastic, and with the other, push the rubber edge into place.

If you bought a repair seal, you will notice that it already has a hard edge that fits easily under the cladding. If the edge has a thickening, it should be cut with a sharp knife at a distance of about 10 mm from the edge. To securely hold the seal in place, you can drip a little superglue onto the seating areas.

Replacing the foam-fixed seal

To remove the seal you will need:

– a sharp knife; – self-tapping screws.

Remove the refrigerator door and place it on a stable, level surface with the inside facing up. Use a sharp knife to go over the junction of the rubber with the body and remove the old seal. Clean the resulting groove from the remaining foam to ensure a more snug fit to the body of the new seal.

Drill holes for self-tapping screws around the perimeter of the door in increments of about 13 cm. Cut a new seal to the required length, lay it in the groove and fix it with self-tapping screws. To resume full operation of the refrigerator, reinstall the door and adjust the uniformity of the seal using the awnings.
