Palm Sunday: what to cook

Palm Sunday (Palm Sunday, Lord’s Entry into Jerusalem) is traditionally celebrated a week before Easter or on the sixth Sunday of Great Lent.

According to legend, on this day in 30 AD, Jesus Christ rode on a donkey to Jerusalem. There he was met by common people, laying palm branches on his way and greeting him with the words: “Glory to the Son of David!” Palm branches in the hands of people at that time were considered a sign of respect for kings and victors. This is how people traditionally greeted them as they entered the city.

Why “verbal”?

In ancient times, the palm branch was considered a symbol of kindness and divine grace. The Slavic peoples also did not mind supporting this tradition. But since they did not have palms, they had to replace this symbol with branches, as a rule, of willow plants – willow, willow, willow. The willow was used more often than others on this holiday,

On Palm Sunday, it is not customary to arrange noisy festivities, as it falls on the days of Great Lent, but some want to please themselves and cook something tasty and unusual. Fish, seafood, vegetable oil and dry wine are allowed on this day.

We have selected several dishes that combine a certain solemnity, as well as the requirements of Great Lent.

If salad, then Vinaigrette, traditionally considered an option for feasts. It combines all lean foods and is rich in rather bright taste.

For the first time, we recommend mackerel borscht, in which fish perfectly replaces meat.

Pie with mushrooms and sauerkraut can also be served as a main course. Cabbage with mushrooms is a great traditional combination. The pie according to this recipe turns out to be juicy, with a rich taste. And baking a cake itself is a culinary activity that stands out among others, will add festiveness to this day.

Be sure to take advantage of the relaxation and eat fish on this day. After all, only twice during Lent is it allowed to eat fish dishes: on the Annunciation and on Palm Sunday. You can bake mackerel or bake fish in parchment according to Ruslan Senichkin’s recipe. In general, baked fish turns out to be invariably tender, with a delicate texture. And if you add vegetables to it, then you will have a dietary, tasty and healthy lunch or dinner.

And for dessert, bake a Napoleon cake, of course, according to a lean recipe.

And don’t forget

About the interesting tradition of Palm Sunday! It lies in the fact that on this day, close people lightly beat each other with willow branches in order to expel disease and damage.

Happy holiday!

We will remind, earlier we told Napoleon, and also shared recipes for unusual Easter cakes.
