Useful foods for fistula

Fistula is a medical emergency. Quite often, surgical intervention is required to treat it. After this, the patient’s nutrition should be strictly controlled by the doctor in order to prevent complications or re-formation of the fistula. Also, for a complete recovery, doctors prescribe a special diet, the purpose of which is to eliminate the protein-energy imbalance. If the doctor does not give special advice regarding the diet, general recommendations should be followed. Take food 5 times a day in small portions. It is important that it is only warmed up.

  • If the patient underwent an operation to eliminate the fistula, in the first days after it, the doctor prescribes a special liquid diet in order to exclude stools and not contaminate the wound with feces. It includes kefir, water, boiled rice.
  • With intestinal fistulas, dates, raisins and peanuts are prescribed to saturate the body with microelements.
  • In addition, for intestinal fistulas, doctors most often prescribe foods with a high protein content, since such patients should receive about 3000 kcal per day of low-fat, healthy food. It can be lean meat (beef, turkey fillet, chicken breast) and fish (trout, pink salmon, tuna). You can also eat eggs and low-fat cottage cheese. In addition, such patients are prescribed cheese, diet sausage, sausages, boiled tongue, liver pate, steep porridge, crackers and white bread. Moreover, such foods improve intestinal motility.
  • It is useful to eat beef and chicken liver, peanuts, walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds and barley, as they contain folic acid, which has a positive effect on the body with unformed intestinal fistulas and normalizes bowel function.
  • In addition, in the presence of an unformed intestinal fistula, doctors advise eating beef, rabbit meat, lean lamb and pork, chicken eggs and sour cream, since they are rich in vitamin B12, which normalizes the body’s metabolism, which is disturbed by fistulas.
  • Useful for unformed intestinal fistulas and the use of pangamic acid (vitamin B15), which is found in wheat, wild rice, barley, buckwheat, almonds, pumpkin seeds and watermelon.
  • It is important for people with fistulas to get enough vitamin C, which also has a beneficial effect on the metabolism. It is usually given as an injection, but foods containing it can also be consumed. These include bell peppers, black currants, sea buckthorn, Brussels sprouts and red cabbage, and honeysuckle. At the same time, do not forget that excessive consumption of raw vegetables and fruits is not desirable for fistulas, as bowel emptying is provoked. An alternative is to steamed vegetables in moderation.
  • With biliary fistulas, it is useful to use beef and chicken liver, butter, processed cheese, sour cream, feta cheese and cottage cheese, which saturate the body with vitamin A, which is an antioxidant. It is with bile fistulas that there is a deficiency of this vitamin in the body.
  • Also, with biliary fistulas, a lack of vitamin D appears, which can be replenished by chicken eggs, cream, liver, sour cream and butter. Vitamin D is essential for the regulation of calcium and phosphorus in the body.
  • In addition, for biliary fistulas, doctors recommend taking antioxidants, the main representative of which is vitamin E. It is found in almonds, hazelnuts, peanuts, pistachios, cashews, dried apricots, wheat, barley, walnuts, salmon, pike perch and oatmeal.
  • A biliary fistula can also cause a deficiency of vitamin K, which regulates the motor function of the gastrointestinal tract. It also normalizes blood clotting processes in the body, which is an important factor, since patients have bleeding. Vitamin K is found in onions, tomato paste, carrots, cabbage, apples, pears, and bananas. However, these products should not be abused, but it is better to eat exclusively steamed. Before operating on patients with fistulas, doctors also prescribe vitamin K to help reduce blood loss.
  • It is recommended to use 3-day kefir, milk, cream, strong tea, cocoa, decoction of raisins, rose hips, tomato juice, stone fruit juices as a liquid. They do not cause fermentation, but enrich the body with useful substances.

Folk remedies for the treatment of fistula

  1. 1 Chopped oak bark, toadflax flowers and water pepper grass, taken in equal quantities, are mixed with melted lard in proportions of 1 tbsp. herbs and bark for 2 tbsp. lard. Then the mixture must be put in the oven and heated over low heat for 10-12 hours. The resulting cream is cooled and, using cotton swabs, is applied to the sore spot with rectal fistula. The course of treatment is 21 days.
  2. 2 Fistulas on the skin can be cured by applying a bandage moistened with aloe juice and mummy juice, taken in equal amounts, to the sore spot.
  3. 3 To draw out pus from the fistula, a cabbage leaf is applied to it for several hours. Sore spots are wiped with a mixture of vodka and olive oil, taken in equal proportions. After a few weeks of such procedures, the fistula disappears.
  4. 4 With a gum fistula, it is useful to rinse the mouth with a decoction of chamomile, calendula, oak bark, sage or yarrow, since they have an antiseptic effect and have a beneficial effect on the gums. However, rinsing should be in addition to the doctor’s treatment, as they are not able to pull out the pus located at the root of the tooth.
  5. 5 Also, in addition to drug treatment, you can use trays and microclysters from infusions of aloe, calendula, St. John’s wort or sage, which have an anti-inflammatory effect and alleviate the patient’s condition.
