Mumps was once very common, but it is now an increasingly rare disease thanks to vaccination. If you suspect that you or your child has contracted mumps, I advise you to see your doctor. However, I recommend that you call him beforehand and agree on a specific appointment time to avoid waiting in the waiting room and thus risk infecting other people. Since mumps is rare, the fever and swelling may be caused by tonsillitis or a blockage of a salivary gland.
