Gastroenteritis can very well be cured on your own. Most are viral and cannot be cured by taking antibiotic medication. I have seen many times patients come to the emergency room for repetitive vomiting, but who had not made a serious effort to rehydrate by mouth. Yet oral rehydration works very well most of the time!

Exit also complicated diets and the prolonged exclusion of solid food. It is better to start solid food again as soon as possible.

A downside: infants should be seen fairly quickly by a doctor, they get dehydrated quickly.
