How to transfer data from phone to phone
A smartphone with important information can be broken or broken, and finally, it can fail without user intervention. We explain how to transfer data from phone to phone correctly

Alas, modern smartphones are not resistant to mechanical damage. Even a slight fall of the phone on asphalt or tiles can break the screen – the largest and most vulnerable part of the device. Using such a phone becomes not only inconvenient, but also unsafe (glass fragments may gradually fall off the display). At the same time, a broken phone can have a lot of important information – contacts, photos and messages. In our material, we will describe in detail how to transfer data from one phone to another. Help us with this equipment repair engineer Artur Tuliganov.

Transfer data between Android phones

Thanks to the standard services from Google, in this case, nothing special needs to be done. In 99% of cases, every Android user has a personal Google account that stores all the important information. The system is configured in such a way that even photos and videos are stored in Google Disc.

In order to restore all files on a new phone, you need to:

  1. Enter your username and password from your old account.
  2. In the smartphone settings menu, select the “Google” item and click on the drop-down arrow.
  3. If you have forgotten your email address or password, you can remind them by using your mobile number.
  4. The list of contacts and personal files will start appearing on the phone immediately after the authorization of the Google account.

If you bought a new phone in a store, then the smartphone will prompt you to log into your Google account immediately after the first turn on. The data will also be restored automatically. This method is great for those who need to transfer data when replacing their phone.

Transfer data between iPhones

Conceptually, the system for transferring data between Apple devices is no different from Android smartphones, but there are some features. There are several ways to transfer data from iPhone to a new phone.

Quick start feature

This method is suitable for those who have an old but working smartphone at hand.

  1. You need to put the new and old iPhone side by side and turn on Bluetooth on both.
  2. After that, the old device itself will offer you to set up phones through the “Quick Start” function.
  3. Follow the instructions on the screen – at the end you will be prompted to enter the passcode from the old device on the new one.

Via iCloud

In this case, you need stable access to the Internet and a backup copy of information from your old smartphone in Apple’s “cloud”.

  1. When you turn on a new device, it will immediately prompt you to connect to Wi-Fi and restore data from a copy to iCloud.
  2. Select this item and follow the instructions on the screen.
  3. You will also need to enter your Apple account password.

Via iTunes

The method is completely identical to the past, only it uses a PC with iTunes.

  1. After turning on your new device, select Restore from Mac or Windows PC.
  2. Connect your smartphone via Lightning wire to a computer with iTunes installed.
  3. In the application on the PC, select the smartphone you need and click “Restore from a copy” and follow the instructions.
  4. You can’t disconnect iPhone from your computer during recovery.

Apple does not encourage the transition from their operating system, so the iPhone does not come preinstalled with the ability to transfer data from an old phone to Android. But the restrictions can be bypassed with the help of third-party programs. The safest thing to do is to use Google Drive.

  1. Install this application on iPhone and enter its settings menu.
  2. Select “Backup” and follow the instructions – your data will be saved on the Google server.
  3. After that, install the Google Drive app on your Android phone (it is important that the accounts from which you backed up are the same!) and restore the data.

Transfer data from Android to iPhone

For a convenient “moving” from an Android smartphone to iOS, Apple created the “Transfer to iOS” application. With it, there will be no questions about how to transfer data to a new iPhone.

  1. Install the application on your Android device, and when you turn on your new iPhone, select “Transfer data from Android”.
  2. iOS generates a special code that you need to enter on your Android phone.
  3. After that, the process of synchronizing devices through the Wi-Fi network created for a while will begin.

How to transfer data from a broken phone

In the era of modern technology, you can recover data even from a completely “killed” phone. The main thing is that the phone is on iOS or Android, and the user has accounts in Google or Apple. The system is built in such a way that in a certain period of time it saves a copy of the phone on the server, and then restores it if necessary. Therefore, now it is possible to transfer data even from a broken phone.

  1. Log in to your old account on the new device and in the initial settings, select the “Restore data from a copy” item.
  2. A significant part of the data will be restored automatically. Copies of “heavy” photos or videos are not taken every hour, so it is possible that some content may not be saved in it. However, most of the data will be automatically downloaded to your new phone.

What should I do if the data is transferred incompletely or with errors?

Make sure you have enough free space on your new device. Try running the data migration process again. In general, when restoring a system from a copy on the server, the most current version saved on the Internet is always restored. Therefore, you will not be able to get something more purely physically.

Can I transfer data from a tablet to a smartphone and vice versa?

Yes, here the algorithm is no different from the instructions for a smartphone. Sign in to your Google or Apple accounts and the data will transfer automatically.

How to save data if the phone’s storage device is broken?

Problems can occur both with the phone’s memory and with an external drive. In the first case, try to connect your smartphone to the rear USB port of the computer and try to manually copy the necessary files from the device. If it didn’t work the first time, reinstall the drivers or try again with another PC. If the problem persists, it is better to contact the service center for diagnostics from the master.

If the problem is with the files on the flash card, then you can try to figure it out on your own. First of all, inspect it – there should be no cracks on the case, and the metal contacts of the card should be clean. Be sure to check the card with an antivirus, it will be more convenient to do this from a computer.

It is possible that some files can only be recovered through special PC programs. For example, R-Studio – with its help recover damaged or deleted files. To do this, select the desired disk in the program interface and start scanning.
