Greek eating habits to learn

Eat salad first

Due to the geographical features and the ability to eat fresh vegetables and leaves all year round, Greeks are very fond of salad. It fills the stomach with fiber and at the same time is low in calories, so it is impossible to overeat a heavy meal after a salad.

Eat a lot of lettuce 

 

Lettuce leaves contain vitamins and trace elements – A, B, vitamin E, potassium, calcium, magnesium, ascorbic and folic acids. If the greens are grown in the wild, they have more beneficial properties. The Greeks not only add greens to the salad, but also eat the leaves whenever possible – they wrap pieces of meat, cereals or vegetables in them.

Eat vegetables as a side dish

Instead of stuffing their stomachs with flour, the Greeks prefer to stew or bake vegetables and legumes for a side dish. Nourishing and low-calorie – peas, leeks, eggplants, all types of cabbage. If you season and add grated cheese, it will be delicious and balanced.

Buy fruits and vegetables in season from local producers

This way you minimize the risk of adverse reactions. Even despite the long off-season of fresh fruits and vegetables, there will be little benefit in those brought from far away due to the high content of nitrates in them, chemistry and general lack of maturity.

Add herbs

Herbs will improve the taste of the dish, give it a piquancy and aroma, and you use less salt in such cooking. Herbs, like vegetables, contain many vitamins and minerals necessary for the good functioning of our body – they will help relieve some of the symptoms of diseases and improve the functioning of internal organs.

Drink plenty of water

This is not only the recommendation of the Greeks, but the inhabitants of this country strictly follow it. In their homes, whole shelves are allocated for bottles with water, they always drink it, preferring water to juices or other drinks.

Replace dessert with fruit

Instead of taking a bite of tea with candy or chocolate, try to eat fruit – sliced ​​or one ripe fruit at a time. Of course, they also have a lot of sugar, but also fiber and vitamins, which will benefit the body. The Greeks take this into account!

Use olive oil

Choose the lesser of all evils, especially since fats are also necessary for our body. Olive oil contains monounsaturated fats and they are considered the healthiest vegetable fats. Every resident of Greece uses about 23 liters of olive oil a year!
