Don’t Make These 10 Mistakes If You Have A Cat

Even the most experienced owners sometimes make serious mistakes when caring for their pets.

Refuse sterilization or castration

In fact, these treatments have a positive effect on the health of the animal. Sterilization reduces the risk of developing breast tumors in cats and testicular cancer in cats. In addition, such pets are less prone to aggression and run away from home.

Bathe

In fact, they are completely independent in this regard and can wash themselves. Bathing is stressful and sometimes even some dogs don’t like it very much. If your pet gets dirty, it is better to use wet wipes. In cases where they cannot solve the problem and bathing cannot be avoided, then wash only those parts of the body that are actually contaminated.

Ignore going to the vet

Even cats that have never been outdoors should be vaccinated. Living in an apartment doesn’t mean your furry friend can’t get sick. Ideally, take your cat to the vet at least once every six months.

Place plants within their reach

Some houseplants are toxic to cats, although they are unaware of it. Therefore, having seen appetizing leaves nearby, do not mind eating them. If you can’t remove all the plants from them, then at least check if they are dangerous for the animal. Azaleas, daffodils, aloe, begonias and calla lilies are considered the most poisonous for cats.

Feed only dry food

“Kamushki” is more of an appetizer than a full meal. They cannot satisfy the pet’s hunger. The cat’s menu must necessarily contain wet food, and it is recommended to give it several times a day. But you should not completely switch to it either, let dry food be a snack for the animal during the day.

Punish bad behavior

As a rule, this is how cats solve their problems. They start scratching furniture if they don’t like their scratching post or if it is in an unwanted place. Cats bite when they have not been taught to play with people or they think you are dangerous. It’s the same with scratching. If the pet stubbornly relieves itself in the wrong litter box, then this may signal his illness or he simply does not like the litter box. But you cannot punish for this, unless, of course, you want to get a frightened and irritable cat.

Have an animal for a small child

Children should not be alone with cats. The child can harm the pet. In addition, loud noises scare cats, they can become aggressive. If you decide to have a pet, be sure to keep track of how your child will treat him.

Ignore their right to be alone

Just like people, cats need a secluded corner where they can take a break from society and be alone with themselves. And in this shelter, they must feel comfortable and safe. So make sure your pet has a place to hide and sleep.

Feed milk

Kittens should drink their mother’s milk, and if for some reason they cannot get it, then they should be replaced with special milk alternatives. It can be either products purchased from a veterinarian, as well as goat’s milk or light cream with a fat content of up to 10%. But during adolescence, some changes occur in the cat’s body. He begins to produce less of the enzyme necessary for the assimilation of milk. And adults may even develop lactose intolerance, and a simple milk treat for them runs the risk of vomiting or diarrhea.

Remove claws

And now we are not talking about cutting the claws, but about a special procedure when the pet is completely removed. This operation is considered very brutal and is even prohibited in many countries. During it, the animal’s knuckles are first broken, and then they are amputated. After that, the cat is doomed to suffer from pain in the paws while walking.
