What fruits can you eat from Thailand

Fruits that smell like a tree or onion, but taste like peach or strawberry. How to understand them and how to eat them?

Nowadays, you find yourself in the fruit departments of supermarkets as if you were in an exotic country. Remove the electric lamps, mentally imagine a palm tree, look around – and you will understand that this is an Asian market. Sometimes it is even scary, because it is not clear whether you can eat these fruits or not. So, let’s take a bite of these unusual fruits.

The name translates as “great fruit”, and who knows the taste of mango, it is not for nothing that they call him the fruit king. Mango fruits can be yellow, green, orange and red. Almost all year round, greens are brought to us – most often these are unripe fruits, which means that their taste is not pronounced. But an interesting fact: in unripe fruits there is more vitamin C, and in ripe fruits – A and B. To enjoy the taste, “catch” this exotic in March – May – during the ripening period of mangoes. At this time, the flesh of the fruit is soft, yellow with peach and pineapple flavors, and the smooth peel has a delicate pine aroma. Usually, the peel is not eaten, but be sure to try it on a ripe fruit. Have you eaten a sweet tree? Here’s an opportunity.

Ripe fruit is best cut into pieces, otherwise the juice will flow to the elbow. For aesthetes, we recommend cutting two halves of the fruit along the stone and making cuts along and across the pulp, preserving the integrity of the skin. Turn the fruit halves inside out (slightly) and cut off the resulting diamonds. The remaining flattened bone can be planted in a bowl, it will give you a sprout that will remind you of outlandish countries.

Note: if you bought an unripe fruit, you can wrap it in dark parchment and leave it at room temperature for a couple of days, it will ripen a little.

A large fruit up to 800 g on the shelves of our stores resembles an elongated pumpkin. They eat papaya pulp, which has a special flavor reminiscent of a combination of ripe pumpkin and melon. By cutting a juicy orange fruit in half, you will get an aesthetic pleasure – inside the cavity, like eggs, there are hundreds of black glossy seeds. Paint a picture before you have eaten this beauty. By the way, papaya seeds have a spicy pungent taste, but you shouldn’t get carried away with them, just try them. You also need to know that papaya is very useful, it includes such minerals as zinc, iron, phosphorus, calcium and vitamins A and B. But you need to know that an unripe fruit cannot be eaten, it contains a toxic element: milky juice latex. So choose ripe, bright orange fruits and enjoy the exotic.

The name is translated from the Thai language as “fruit of passion”, but we are more accustomed to hear “passion fruit”, because we see this word in the composition of yoghurts, juices, ice cream and even tea. The uniquely aromatic juice of this fruit attracts culinary experts to create new food masterpieces.

Tastes differ? And how! Especially with regard to the taste of passion fruit. It can resemble kiwi, strawberries, apricots, plums, gooseberries, and ripe sea buckthorn. Passion fruit is consumed fresh, cut in half and eaten with a dessert spoon. The peel is quite dense, so it becomes a natural “glass” for the sweet and sour, but slightly tart pulp.

Passion fruit is capricious in transportation, so you can rarely see it on the shelves. But if you come across this fruit, choose with an eggplant color – this is the sweetest.

Despite the fact that guava looks like an ordinary apple or pear, this fruit opens up new flavor boundaries, and their shades are difficult to compare with anything. Raspberries, plus strawberries, plus pineapple, complemented by pine needles. The spruce flavor comes from the peel, which can also be eaten. The flesh of the fruit – from white to all shades of red – is filled with hard bones that are impossible to bite through. But the seeds can be swallowed whole, as they make an excellent stomach scrub.

The tropical apple is packed with potassium and lycopene. The fruits can be consumed by cutting into slices or simply by biting, like the fruits we know. If the coniferous shade of the rind bothers you, cut it off. And remember about the bones, do not damage your teeth.

It is also called a creamy apple, and for good reason – inside the fruit is sweet and aromatic pulp. like a creamy custard. The shape of the fruit resembles a very large green cone with a rough shell, which gives the deceptive feeling that the flesh is strong too. But the custard apple should be eaten as soon as you buy it. It cannot be stored because of its delicate, sweet, perishable insides. We bought it, cut it up, took tablespoons and two or three of us began to eat from the common “dish”. Spit out the bones, they are poisonous … if you try to bite them.

Reminds of the ocean and starfish. By slicing the fruit across, you can get many five-pointed stars for cocktails and salads. Our hypermarkets sell unripe fruits that taste more like a vegetable than a fruit, for example, a cucumber with a faint watermelon scent. The fruits are very juicy and perfectly quench thirst, while ripe fruits taste like grapes with apple or gooseberries with plums. Need to try. It is likely that you will have a new version of your taste fantasies.

Lychee, longan, rambutan, snake fruit

All of these fruits are a bit similar. They have a thin (hairy or smooth), but tough shell, and inside a delicate translucent pulp with large bones. The pulp of the fruit, similar to the grape, has a completely different taste and aroma: sweet and sour, but slightly tart and gives off a little melon, fruits of medium ripeness have a musky aroma. It is already clear that describing the taste of exotic fruits is a thankless task.

The fruit should be cut or crushed, the bone removed and the tropical taste of the pulp should be enjoyed.

Here is another fruit of the gods, as it is called because of the active healing effect of the body. Interestingly, nicotinic acid is present in mangosteen, so its use helps to cope with nicotine and alcohol addiction. The fruit’s purple rind is tough, bitter, and inedible. The secret of the amazing taste is kept inside. Make a circular cut and peel the half of the fruit. Sweet and fragrant slices can be pricked with a fork or removed with a spoon. There is a small bone inside each lobule.

Pitaya, or the heart of the dragon

An amazingly beautiful and unusual fruit. Outwardly, like a bristling hedgehog or a prickly pear, and not surprising, because these are the fruits of a cactus growing in the humid tropics. The inside of the pitaya has a delicate pulp, similar to creamy poppy seeds. Fruit seeds are very healthy and need to be chewed. The pulp is eaten only raw, like mashed potatoes. There is no need to expect strong sweetness from a watery fruit. We can say that it disappoints a little with its inexpressive bland taste, but it is shown to diabetics and smells unusually. They eat it with a spoon, after cutting it in half. The peel is discarded.

Giant fruits reach a weight of up to 35 kg, but on the shelves you can see it weighing eight kilograms. The thick yellow-green peel is covered with pimples or thorns, and inside are sweet and tasty pod slices. To get them, you need to cut the fruit to the core and remove the slices with your hands, each of which has a bone. By the way, hands must be protected from the sticky substance of jackfruit either with gloves or vegetable oil. The taste of the fruit is reminiscent of a very sweet banana with a caramel flavor, and the smell … the smell of unpeeled jackfruit is slightly reminiscent of durian. Get rid of the peel sooner and feel the combination of banana and pineapple aromas from the pulp.
