What a child should know before school, a future first grader

A future first grader must have a certain store of knowledge in order to more easily adapt to the educational process. But you should not forcefully teach your child to write, read and count before going to first grade, first you need to familiarize yourself with the standards.

What a future first grader should be able to do

Most importantly, he must know information about himself and his parents. The first grader answers without any problems what his name is, how old he is, where he lives, who his mom and dad are, knows their place of work.

What should a child know before going to school?

It is possible to determine the child’s mental development, attention and speech by the following parameters:

  • he knows poems;
  • composes songs or fairy tales;
  • tells what is shown in the picture;
  • retells a fairy tale;
  • understands what he is reading about, can correctly answer questions;
  • remembers 10 pictures, knows how to find differences;
  • works according to the pattern;
  • solves simple puzzles, guesses riddles;
  • groups objects according to characteristics, knows how to find an extra one;
  • ends unsaid sentences.

The child must know colors, holidays, days of the week, months, seasons, letters, numbers, domestic and wild animals. There should be an understanding of where is right and where is left.

What a child should know before school

Children are accepted to school from the age of 6, so the baby must have the simplest skills in calculating, writing and reading.

The requirements for a first grader are as follows:

  • Math skills. The child knows how to count from 1 to 10 and in reverse order, restores the number series, if numbers are missing, decreases and increases by several objects. The first grader knows geometric shapes, for example, a triangular, a square, a rhombus, a circle. He understands what is smaller and larger, compares objects in size.
  • Reading. The child knows the letters, can find the right one, distinguishes vowels from consonants. He reads sentences of 4-5 words.
  • Letter. He knows how to trace pictures and letters along the contour. The child holds the pen correctly, can draw a continuous straight or broken line, draws in cells and points, paints without going beyond the contour.

These are the requirements for children who will study in a regular school. For gymnasiums, the school curriculum is more difficult, so it is more difficult to qualify.

Parents are obliged to help their children learn new knowledge. Cultivate interest in science in a playful way, because it is still difficult for preschool children to master new knowledge in a “serious” form. Do not scold the kids if they fail at something, as they are just learning. By following these tips, you can easily prepare your baby for first grade.
