Saffron is one of the oldest spices obtained from crocus stamens. In appearance, it resembles thin threads of a reddish-orange color. It is used in cooking, medicine and even cosmetology. It gives dishes a completely unique taste and aroma, helps to improve human well-being and preserve its beauty.

Useful properties of saffron

This “king of spices” has long been known for its amazing healing properties, the secret of which lies in the unique composition of saffron. It contains many minerals, including calcium, selenium, iron, zinc, sodium, manganese, copper and phosphorus. In addition, this spice contains a large amount of B vitamins, vitamin A and ascorbic acid. And also saffronal and flavonoids, which have a detrimental effect on cancer cells.

Thanks to this composition, saffron helps with diseases of the gallbladder, liver and spleen. It improves brain function, vision, coughs and infertility.

Science has proven that people who regularly consume saffron practically do not suffer from cardiovascular diseases.

This spice is also used to treat nervous disorders, insomnia and neuroses. It cleanses the blood, removes toxins and is a natural antiseptic. Considering all this, it is not surprising that in oriental medicine, saffron is included in almost 300 medicines.

In cosmetology, saffron is often added to anti-aging creams. Due to the high content of essential oils and other components, this spice stimulates the body’s metabolism, eliminates pigmentation, rejuvenates the skin and improves its appearance.

Naturally, the cost of cosmetics with saffron is very high. To get 100 g of this spice, you need to process 8000 crocuses, which bloom only two weeks a year.

Another property of saffron is a completely unique rich taste and aroma. That is why it is so prized in cooking. And although it often doesn’t require any additional spices, saffron goes great with cinnamon, rosemary, thyme, black pepper and other spices. It gives dishes a unique taste, and you can use it with absolutely any product.

This spice should be consumed only in small quantities – no more than 5-7 strings per serving, as in large doses saffron can cause severe poisoning. For the prevention of colds, cardiovascular diseases, as well as general strengthening of the body, saffron can be added to tea. Just put a few strands of this spice in a teapot and pour boiling water over it.

During depression or nervous disorders, you can prepare a special infusion with saffron. Recipe: pour 4-5 strings of this spice with warm water, add 10 raisins and a couple of allspice peas.

You should drink this tincture on an empty stomach.

You can also add 2-3 strings of saffron to any food you cook. It is especially harmoniously combined with oriental treats, meat, fish and sweets. During baking, it can be crushed and kneaded into dough.

To moisturize and tighten the skin, make a special mask of 0,5 teaspoon of saffron, 1 teaspoon of sour cream and the same amount of honey a couple of times a week. Just mix these products and apply on your face, leaving for 20 minutes.
