There are two kinds of cholestasis (intrahepatic cholestasis and extrahepatic cholestasis). It is important to determine the cause to ensure treatment. Abdominal ultrasound coupled with blood tests can most often make the diagnosis of the cause of cholestasis. If this is not the case, other radiological and biological examinations are prescribed.
