Organic food is not healthier

A systematic review based on 240 studies have not revealed evidence of the benefits of organic products in comparison to ordinary in the sense of the content of useful nutrients. But consuming them, can slightly reduce the chance to encounter pesticides (about 30%) or by bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics (33%). However, both are not a threat, and with modern technology there is no practical sense in this.

However, all the forecasts suggest that the market for organic products will continue to grow steadily, for purely marketing reasons. The sellers are always profitable to segment the market, so the more affluent products would still be kind of more expensive food. Well, how many times more you can sell the same oatmeal, putting it into more beautiful bags?

And putting the stamp “organic”, on a common everyday products gives an opportunity to sell them much more expensive due to objective reasons: the growing “organic” foods are really more expensive. And it turns out quite adequate segmentation of the market, which works perfect: even if an intelligent man will find the time, digging in scientific journals, to understand that all the horror stories about food is a lie, still thinking “what if? Health-overvalued” will buy such products at exorbitant prices, if they have enough money.

By the way, according to agropages website in Europe organic food is more expensive on the average on 20%, in USA – 50%, and in Russia – up to 10 times that, apparently, reflects both the ability of marketers to properly scare the target audience and the ability of the population to believe in invented threats.

Recently scientists have even conducted on this subject a serious study. They measured the satisfaction from eating conventional and organic food (of course, the food was the same, but different information was told about it). The authors investigated the chain :

eco-friendly food → satisfaction → enhance the taste → willingness to pay more

It has been proven that the information about the producer and production may both improve and deteriorate the taste of the product. The same food, if  to tell about it, that it was made with care about the environment, without chemicals, people find more palatable, because in the definition of taste is involved the prefrontal cortex, which supports the subsequent desire to give this food more money.

So, if you have enough money, you can spend them on more sustainable products, but if these are are significant costs for you, there will be much more health benefits from investing in better nutrition without considering the fashion of markings.

Buy what you like and for any choice control food composition according to healthy standards, and your body will be guaranteed to have everything needed, regardless of the amount of the expenses for food, style of consumption and taste preferences.
