Nutrition for anemia

Anemia (anemia) is a disease characterized by a decrease in erythrocytes (red blood cells), hemoglobin, respiratory function of the blood and the development of oxygen starvation of tissues. Most often, anemia is a symptom of another disease.

Varieties:

  1. 1 Iron deficiency anemia – occurs when there is a deficiency of iron in the body;
  2. 2 Hemolytic anemia – characterized by the rapid destruction of red blood cells;
  3. 3 Sickle cell anemia – the body produces abnormal hemoglobin (the structure of hemoglobin cells in a sickle shape) under the influence of mutations;
  4. 4 Folic acid deficiency anemia – a lack of vitamin B12 or folic acid;
  5. 5 Hypo- and aplastic anemia – lack of functionality of the bone marrow;
  6. 6 Acute post-hemorrhagic or chronic post-hemorrhagic anemia – occurs with a large one-time or systematic loss of blood.

Causes:

  • blood loss during operations, trauma, heavy menstrual bleeding, constant insignificant blood loss (for example, with hemorrhoids, ulcers);
  • insufficient function of the bone marrow, which produces red blood cells;
  • lack of iron in the body, vitamin B12, folic acid (for example, in case of malnutrition, active growth of the child, pregnancy, lactation period);
  • mental disorders;
  • a sedentary way of life, excessive physical or mental work;

In case of anemia, in addition to drugs, it is important to adhere to a balanced diet rich in iron (at least 20 mg per day), vitamins, proteins, amino acids. This diet stimulates hematopoiesis (the process of hematopoiesis).

  4. 4 water from mineral springs with a low-mineralized iron-sulfate-hydrocarbonate-magnesium composition of waters, which promotes the absorption of iron in an ionized form by the body (for example: mineral springs in Uzhgorod);
  5. 5 additionally iron-fortified food products (confectionery, bread, baby food, etc.);
  6. 6 honey – promotes the absorption of iron;

It is recommended to drink iron-containing food with sour juice of orange, grapefruit, lemon, pomegranate, apple, cranberry juice, since iron is well absorbed in an acidic environment.

For the prevention and treatment of anemia, walks in parks, coniferous forests, physical education, travel to the mountains, optimization of mental and physical labor are also useful.

Dangerous and harmful foods for anemia

You should limit the use of fats, milk, pastries, tea, coffee, coca-cola (they contain caffeine, which interferes with the absorption of iron by the body).

Exclude from the diet dishes that contain brine and vinegar (they have a destructive effect on the blood), foods containing calcium (combined use with foods containing iron prevents its absorption).

Dangerous to health and life is the use of alcohol in case of anemia (especially strong drinks and surrogate substitutes). Alcoholic drinks contribute to pathological processes during the course of anemia, the occurrence of complications in the form of a syndrome of blood clotting disorders.
