March carp fishing

Carp, or carp, which lives outside the fishing farms, reaches a large size, stubbornly resists and generally gives a lot of pleasure to the angler when caught. Catching carp in March, although limited, can be successful. Especially in the southern regions, where the ice melts and the water warms up earlier.

What does carp do

In March, this fish wakes up from hibernation. Small individuals begin to feed first. The largest are in a state of winter sleep until the water warms up above 10-15 degrees. Therefore, catching carp in March is not able to bring big trophies.

The basis of the food of small carps are benthic insects and mollusks. At this time, the breeding season of the pond snail shell and a number of other scallop shells, similar to the pond snail in terms of lifestyle, just ends. Small cubs appear between the valves, which have an immature shell and are a tasty morsel for the digestion of any kind of fish. Moreover, such food also replenishes the resource of calcium and phosphorus in the body, which is needed for the growth of juvenile fish.

In the lower reaches of the Volga, the surface of the water is freed from ice early. The same is in the Krasnodar Territory, in the lower reaches of the Dnieper, Dnest, Don, where carp likes to live in backwaters and quiet estuaries. On the current, it can be found less often, and then only on a weak one. Carp avoids at this time places with a strong current, if he does not move to the spawning grounds. However, the time has not yet come for this, its passage along the rivers and canals will be later, approximately by mid-April-early May.

Catching carp

As usual, they prefer to use bottom gear for carp. The float at this time is not used as often as on June warm days. The fact is that the carp goes under the shore more often when the young shoots from algae begin to break through, when its digestive tract is already able to take plant food. And in the early spring months, even if the water has already warmed up, it does not come too close to the shore, because there is no need.

The favorite places for carp these days will be areas that are well warmed up by the stingy spring sun. As the long-term practice of carp anglers has shown, it should be looked for in shallows remote from the coast, at a depth of no more than two meters. If somewhere there are distant tables, navels, distant bottom ridges with a shell bottom, this is the best place for bottom carp fishing.

The right choice of fishing spot

Fishing near the shore is still bad because there is a large amount of small fish walking there. Crucian carp, rudd, vobla, which live in the same places, will eat even fairly large boilies with great greed. And if we take into account the fact that the carp at this time prefers to take on the worm and other living creatures, then you won’t see anything on the hook except the little things.

A prerequisite is the presence of an animal component in the nozzle. Even if an ordinary boilie is used, a worm, a bunch of maggots or other insects that can attract this fish should be hooked to it. Some people secure the animal bait with corn so it can’t be pulled off. It’s not always perfect, but it works.

When choosing a place for fishing, it is worth abandoning sections with a current and rivers in general. The fact is that immediately after opening from the ice, running water is cloudy from melt water and turbidity from the banks that come during floods. Even in channels where there may be no flow at all, due to spring phenomena, its turbidity is observed. In muddy water, it is much more difficult for fish to find a nozzle, so it is best to catch on a lake or pond, although they are opened from the ice later.

Bait selection

A good result is shown by fishing with active baits. Oddly enough, carp at this time can take on spinning. It is advisable to use live worms for the nozzle, which should be changed every ten minutes so that they do not fall asleep and move on the hook. Experienced anglers advise catching shellfish for meat. Well, maybe this is a really good bait. For example, adding the shells of old shells collected on the shore and crushed into bait can increase the number of bites. There shouldn’t be too much bait. It is much more important to determine the place of fishing where the fish will be. To do this, it is necessary to carefully examine the bottom of the reservoir. They explore the whole bottom, determine what it is, silty, clay, sandy, cartilaginous or silt. It is best to fish on the shell. Casting on one landmark is not limited. It is necessary to make fan casts to different landmarks, so that later you can put several rods on different points. As already mentioned, the main points should be shell shallows.

Pulling out a young carp is great fun! He violently resists, somersaults. Even if its weight does not exceed two kilograms, it is able to deliver a lot of positive emotions to the angler. At the same time, not the heaviest and most durable tackle can be used, because it is much easier to handle a light carp rod. Such a common carp usually walks in flocks, and you can often see not only doublets of bites, but also triples. The bites come in series, and here it is better to be on the alert and catch with a friend so that you can immediately pull out a couple of rods without missing a single fish.
