Good salt is crumbly and dry, but if stored improperly, it can become saturated with moisture and set into a hard lump. To prevent this from happening, you should follow the rules for storing salt.
- Store salt in a dry and ventilated place.
- Always cover the salt tightly in a salt shaker.
- Do not pick up salt from a salt shaker with wet or greasy hands or a damp spoon.
- In a container with a large supply of salt, you can put a small gauze bag with rice – it will absorb excess moisture.
- Store salt in linen bags, glassware or unopened original packaging, wooden or ceramic salt shaker.
- If you are going to use a plastic container for storing salt, make sure it is marked “for food”.
And remember, every adult needs only 5 to 7 grams of salt per day every day. In summer, due to increased sweating, this need increases to 10-15 grams. Therefore, do not oversalt food and, where possible, try to use analogs of salt.
