Therefore, do not put onions at all and cannot be replaced with anything. If you just don’t like the taste of this vegetable, try grating it on a fine grater or mashing it with a blender. After cooking, such onions are practically not felt in the dish.

You can also completely replace the onions in minced meat with one of the following foods:

  • cabbage;
  • zucchini;
  • fresh greens.

The least preferred cabbage on this list. Its taste will be very noticeable in cutlets. However, you can try using this vegetable if you want to achieve an unusual taste of the dish.

But zucchini, unlike cabbage, will not be felt at all in cutlets. Grate them on a fine grater and put them in the minced meat. As a result, the cutlets will be really juicy.

If you plan to use minced meat not for cutlets, but for filling, say, in pasties or khinkali, use fresh chopped herbs (parsley, dill, etc.). Don’t be afraid to overdo it. In this case, you can put greens in equal proportions with meat.

How to replace onions in soup and other dishes

Asafoetida is an unusual oriental spice with a pungent smell that resembles a mixture of onions and garlic. Asafoetida is made from the resin of the roots of an oriental plant. It is difficult to get and prepare such a seasoning, which is why it is not cheap. Usually, it is slightly diluted with rice flour before being sold to remove excessive saturation.

It is difficult to buy high-quality asafoetida in our country, it is often bred with flour. Buy this spice only in trusted places, preferably in Indian stores.

Use asafoetida with caution. In its pure form, it is enough to take this seasoning on the tip of a knife for a whole dish. In a diluted form, take it at the rate of ¼ tsp. per serving. Fry the seasoning in oil along with ginger, turmeric, black cumin, or mustard to help it open up.

In general, asafoetida can be added to any dish. However, before putting it in the soup, it is better to pre-dissolve the spice in a little water.
