First you need to decide how important the aesthetic appearance is. If keeping warm in the house becomes a priority, then you can use the following methods:

  • use a sealant for wooden windows. The tape has one adhesive surface and is a hollow material that looks like foam rubber. The sealant is on sale in the construction markets. It is recommended to use it if the gaps between the sashes and frames are not too large. The seal is glued to the frame along the perimeter, where it comes into contact with the sash. Further, the gaps between the glass and the glazing bead are coated with ordinary window putty based on an aqueous solution of gypsum;
  • if the gaps between the structural elements are large, then ordinary cotton wool can be used. An ancient way, proven over the years. The slots need to be hammered tightly, and cotton wool should be glued on top with strips of newspaper or white paper. It is not recommended to use ordinary transparent tape: it peels off easily.

How to insulate a wooden window with your own hands using modern means

Now a special energy-saving transparent film is actively used, which is glued to the inside of the window. It prevents heat from escaping through the glass to the outside in the form of infrared radiation, reflecting it and returning it back to the house. To install it you need:

  • degrease the inner surface of the window glass;
  • stick thin double-sided tape around the perimeter of the glass;
  • after cutting the film to the size of the glass with a margin of 2-3 cm, carefully roll it onto the glass with tape, avoiding the appearance of bubbles. The formed small folds have no effect on the final result;
  • shrink the film on the glass with hot air. Here you can use a mounting hair dryer or a regular hair dryer.

The existing gaps between the glass and glazing beads must be filled with frost-resistant sealant.

The choice of the method depends solely on the wishes of the owner of the windows and the possibilities of the family budget.
