How men lose weight: Chris Pratt and 7 more actors who have become twice thinner

Actors for roles often need to not only build giant muscles, but also lose weight. And looking at what diets they use at the same time and how many kilometers a day they run, you will not envy them.

The reason – the film “Guardians of the Galaxy”, 2014

If you have not followed Pratt’s career, then you do not know that he did not always look the way he does now. Even 7-8 years ago, he had problems with weight. By the time he was cast for the role of Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy, he weighed almost 150 kg. The work is partly to blame for this – in the period from 2011 to 2013, he starred in several projects in a row, for which he had to either lose weight or get better again. But when Chris after all this saw the numbers on the scales, he fell into depression. “I started having health problems, I understood: I had to do something,” the actor recalls. However, it was in this form that he came to audition for “Guardians of the Galaxy” and director James Gunn liked so much that he decided to approve him even if the actor did not lose weight. I was ready to add “six cubes” to him using computer graphics. However, Chris asked to give him a chance for six months, during which he promised to lose at least 20 kg. And in the end he threw off almost 30. How did he manage it? “Proper nutrition, 3-4 hours of intense training every day,” Pratt reveals. – And tons of water! That was the hardest part – it seems to me that I didn’t get out of the toilet ”. Since then, the actor has retained excellent shape and for the second part of “Guardians”, which is now in the box office, he did not have to make sacrifices. As well as “drawing” cubes.

Christian Bale – minus 27 kg

The reason – the film “The Machinist”, 2004

The actor loves to surprise the audience – he loses and gains tens of kilograms for various projects as if playfully. For the painting “The Machinist”, where his hero cannot sleep and eat, he brought himself to 55 kg. With a height of 183 cm, Bale ate a portion of tuna and an apple a day, washed it down with plenty of water and coffee. Later, he admitted that he was interested in conducting such an experience on himself, but he no longer wants to repeat it. Although later he broke his word at least twice: again dropping weight for the films “Rescue Dawn” and “The Fighter”. And immediately after “The Machinist” Bale was approved for the role of Batman and he began to return kilograms, leaning on pizza, ice cream and donuts. “I understood that it was harmful, I felt bad, but I enjoyed eating so much! And most importantly, the belly grew by leaps and bounds, ”the actor laughs.

Reason – the movie “Rogue”, 2000

When Matthew McConaughey had to lose weight for the role in the film “Dallas Buyers Club” (about him will be discussed later), he turned to Tom Hanks for advice. After all, he had to deal with this painful process more than once. So, in order to play a man who spends four years on a desert island, Hanks had a chance to experience what an island diet is. His diet consisted of coconuts, coconut milk, crab meat, fruits and vegetables. And the main victim was the abandonment of the beloved latte and replacing it with herbal teas. And two more hours of sports a day. Hanks is no stranger to restrictions – in 1993 for the picture “Philadelphia” he lost 12 kg. But recently the actor admitted that he is no longer ready for such records: he was diagnosed with diabetes mellitus, and now he has to carefully monitor weight fluctuations.

The reason – the film “Courage in battle”, 1996

He has more than 60 roles on his account, and he still considers the most difficult one that happened more than 20 years ago. And all because then for the role of a military man he had to lose weight almost to 60 kg (now he weighs 85). “I ran 20 km a day, but it was not the most difficult. The most is diet. My main food at that time was chicken breast. Nobody prepared me dietary meals. I ate the breast in the variations that I could have composed myself at 25, ”laughs Damon.

Matthew McConaughey – minus 20 kg

The reason – the movie “Dallas Buyers Club”, 2013

To play a hero with AIDS, the actor set a goal – to lose 2 kg per week. “I started right away with a powerful workout that burned 1800 calories a day,” he says. – For breakfast and dinner, I had diet cola, for lunch – chicken breast and egg whites. In two weeks it took almost 4 kg, and then I got injured, and the classes had to be postponed. But after a week, I again found that I had lost 2 kg. And I realized that torturing yourself with sports is not necessary. However, losing weight was not as difficult as rebuilding your life. I didn’t go to restaurants, to parties, I had to come up with new entertainment. I started reading and writing more. True, when I approached the weight of 60 kg, I had to give up this activity too – I began to see worse. ” But McConaughey’s sacrifices were worth it – for them the actor received an Oscar.

Chris Hemsworth – minus 15 kg

Reason – the film “In the Heart of the Sea”, 2015

“Gaining weight is much easier than losing it. In the first case, you eat a lot and lift the barbells, ”says the actor, who easily built up to 15 kg of muscle mass for the role of the superhero Thor. But to play a sailor, drifting for three months in the open ocean, he had to lose weight. Only boiled eggs and salad remained in the diet – and, consuming 500 calories a day, Hemsworth achieved the desired result in just four weeks. He was accompanied by his colleagues Cillian Murphy and Ben Walker in extreme weight loss – they decided that it was more fun to starve together! But after the end of filming, Chris immediately went to an Italian restaurant, where he ate pizza, pasta and all kinds of other high-calorie delicacies. “After such a feast, I had a food hangover,” the actor laughs. “I haven’t looked in the direction of Italian cuisine for a long time.”

Jake Gyllenhaal – minus 14 kg

The reason – the movie “Stringer”, 2014

“My character Lou in the film is always hungry – both in terms of seeking information and in terms of food, so I chose a diet for myself based on being constantly hungry,” says the actor. He was helped in this by cabbage salad and a large amount of … fragrant chewing gum, which was supposed to drown out this hunger at least a little. At the same time, every day Jake ran 25 km from his house to the set. “It all helped to transform into a character. I felt hungry, physically tired and … lonely, because I turned down all offers to meet friends. And if he met with someone, he immediately apologized for the gloom. And I was almost always gloomy because I was hungry, ”recalls Gyllenhaal.

The reason – the film “Silence”, 2016

In the summer of 2015, the actor shocked fans with his thinness and haggard appearance. However, Neeson hastened to reassure everyone: he is healthy, and lost weight especially for filming in Martin Scorsese’s “Silence”, where he played a XNUMXth century priest who is being tortured. “Martin wanted us all to look haggard. My partners Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver also lost weight. Adam, in general, became like a prisoner of a concentration camp ”, – commented the actor. And soon he returned to his usual – and familiar to the audience – weight.
