Hair on the breasts: how to get rid of it

Having hair on the breasts or between the breasts is quite common, contrary to what you might think. Hormonal imbalance or genetic inheritance, this hair can cause important complexes and seriously infringe on your self-esteem. Fortunately, solutions exist.

Hair on the breasts and between the breasts: a taboo but common phenomenon

Hair on the breasts can be really aesthetically embarrassing and cause serious complications. And yet, having hair on the breasts, around the areolas, or between the breasts, is not uncommon.. Simply, it is a “taboo” subject and few women want to shout it from the rooftops. In itself, the hair on the breasts has no direct impact on health, but it can cause complexes that become real fixations, which demoralize you on a daily basis or encroach on your life as a couple.

Rest assured, you are not alone, and the hairs on the breasts are far from inevitable. For an appropriate response, and to find the right way to get rid of it, it is above all necessary to understand the causes of this phenomenon. They can be genetic, hormonal, or related to health disorders.

Hair on the breasts: the causes

Genetic

We present hair follicles all over the body, in the dermis, under the epidermis. These follicles, from puberty, are influenced by hormones in their evolution. Genetics then come into play in two aspects: the number of hair follicles, and the presence of estrogen and testosterone in the body.

Indeed, some people have many hair follicles and are naturally very hairy. Other people naturally have a slight hormonal imbalance, which comes from genetic inheritance. Thus, some men have more estrogen than average in their body and are less hairy, or develop thinner and lighter hair. This also applies to women: some naturally have more testosterone in the body and develop longer, darker hairs in areas of the body sensitive to testosterone.

Women with excess testosterone can then develop hair on the chin, around the mouth, on the temples, and on the breasts. Indeed, the areolas have several hair follicles, particularly sensitive to testosterone. Thus, it is not uncommon to develop a dozen long and dark hairs on the contour of the areolas.

Hormonal disorders

If the hair between the breasts or on the breasts has grown suddenly, it may be a hormonal disorder. For example, pregnancy can mess up your hormones and you can develop body hair during and after pregnancy.

A change in hair can also be due to hormone treatment: contraceptive pills, IUD, contraceptive implant, can cause hair growth on the breasts. Stress or other specific drug treatments can also cause hormonal imbalance and stimulate testosterone production. It will then be necessary to consult your gynecologist and perform a blood test to identify a dosage suitable for your hormonal system.

If your blood test shows a lot of testosterone, and your breasts, as well as your chin and temples, have a lot of hair, it may be polycystic ovary syndrome. This syndrome can then lead to infertility, or cardiovascular disease, so it is important to see a gynecologist quickly.

Hair on the breasts, how to get rid of it?

You will understand that the best way to get rid of hair on the breasts is to treat the problem at the cause. After having carried out a blood test, your gynecologist will be able to offer you an adapted hormonal treatment, which will be able to stop the growth of hair on the breasts and between the breasts.

If the hormonal solution is not an option, you can wax. Be careful, shaving is to be excluded because the hairs will grow coarser and darker. The wax is also to be forgotten, because it is much too aggressive for this very sensitive area. Two techniques can be useful to get rid of hair on the breasts: laser, or electric hair removal.

Both techniques are practiced by a dermatologist or a cosmetic doctor. The laser is quite expensive (60 € per session on average), but it allows long-lasting hair removal and the pain is relatively bearable. The areolas are a difficult area to epilate, so you will have to be patient: laser hair removal can take 6 to 8 sessions.

Electric hair removal is more painful and also requires a few sessions, on the other hand it can make it possible to get rid of resistant hairs, which could not have been eliminated with the laser.

For the most cozy, there are creams whose active ingredient blocks testosterone. In local application on the chest, they can be very effective!
