It is the second largest organ in the human body and we don’t think much about it until something goes wrong. Like a “quiet housekeeper”, the liver works around the clock, cleaning everything that enters it. Just as we clean our apartments every weekend, the liver detoxifies toxins from our food and our environment. Whatever you eat, your liver will deal with it, in addition to its other daily duties: converting carbohydrates, proteins and fats into energy, aiding in digestion, using 30% of the circulating blood every minute to perform chemical reactions to eliminate harmful toxins, distribute and storage of essential nutrients, detoxification of blood from carcinogens. The best thing we can do for our liver is to feed it healthy, plant-based foods. So, what foods help such a significant organ as the liver cleanse itself of accumulated toxins. Beet. A bright and beautiful vegetable, like a crazy shot of health for the whole body, including the liver. Its red, purple hue may seem a little oversaturated, but nature has cleverly created colors for vegetables. For example, beetroot resembles blood in its color and has properties that purify the latter, as a result of which the function of the liver is increased. Beets contain many antioxidants and nutrients: folic acid, pectin, iron, betaine, betanin, betacyanin. Pectin is a soluble form of fiber that is well known for its cleansing properties. Broccoli. Shaped like a mini tree, broccoli gives life to the body. Its bright green hues indicate high levels of antioxidants and chlorophyll found in the cruciferous family. Broccoli, cauliflower, and Brussels sprouts contain glucosinolates, which help the liver produce enzymes that eliminate toxins. Broccoli is also a good source of fat-soluble vitamin E, especially important for the liver. Lemon. Lemons love your liver, and your liver loves lemons! This vegetable provides the body with antioxidants, primarily vitamin C, which promote the production of enzymes that aid in digestion. Lemon is a natural alternative to salt as it is rich in electrolytes that do not dehydrate body cells like sodium does. Lemon acts alkalizing, despite the fact that it is sour. Lentils. Being rich in fiber, it helps the cleansing process and is a natural source of vegetable protein. It is not recommended to consume too much protein, as this can be a serious burden on the liver. Lentils provide enough protein to the body without causing any harm. In addition, it is one of the most easily digestible legumes.
