Eating cheese, is it good or bad for your health?

Cheese is one of those foods that has developed independently around the world and is consumed by all cultures. But today we question whether it really is a beneficial food for our health

El cheeseWe can find it in all shapes and colors. It is included in an infinity of recipes throughout the world and we have all tried it at some time (unless you are intolerante to clear lactose).

However, lately there has been a debate about whether it is really beneficial for our health. Throughout this post, we will decipher what are the nutritional contributions of this food and we will put an end to this controversy once and for all.

Cheese is the result of fermenting milk produced by animals. The most common are cow’s cheese, sheep’s cheese and goat’s cheese; although in other parts of the world we find cheese made from the milk of other animals that we consider exotic, such as camel or yak cheese.

Nutritional value of cheese

The main nutritional contribution of cheese is that we obtain from its calcium and vitamin D. Like any dairy, cheese is a great source of these nutrients that are key to the normal development of our body.

This calcium and this vitamin are key to maintaining a healthy and resistant bone system. Thanks to calcium we have strong and resistant bones that can withstand the daily rush to these structures, and vitamin D is used for the absorption of calcium.

Another of the great nutritional contributions that cheese offers us are proteins of animal origin with which it counts. This type of protein contains a high biological value and is relatively easy to digest, unlike other vitamins of animal origin.

Also, recently, it has been shown that the consumption of cheese is very beneficial to prevent the appearance of cavities on our teeth. This is mainly due to the PH level of this food, which, being basic in nature, counteracts the acids that bacteria secrete from your mouth and that end up perforating the enamel of your teeth.

Furthermore, cheese is not entirely healthy, since in addition to the nutrients that we have mentioned, it also contains some elements in its composition that are not entirely suitable for our body. One of these is your high sodium content, which, consumed in high amounts, can lead to hypertension problems.

It is also worth noting that cheese is a food with a high in fat and cholesterol, with which, in the long run, excessive consumption of this food can lead to circulation and heart problems.

Is cheese a healthy food?

It is important that you know that cheese is a source of amino acids that is not so easy to digest by your body, and that can cause arterial problems, headaches and skin eruptions in those sensitive to this type of amino acids.

Finally we come to the question that has inspired this post, and the answer will surely not surprise you, because as in almost all foods, cheese is healthy if eaten in moderation.

Being a food that provides good nutrients but also causes problems, its consumption should be done in moderation and measuring the amounts so that your body benefits from the contributions and is able to assimilate the bad ones without putting your health at risk.
