Dry skin: what to do when you have dry skin?

Dry skin is caused by a lack of sebum. The skin is then weakened and tightness and redness may appear. You have a harder time coping with makeup, as well as temperature changes and this can be a real discomfort on a daily basis. Discover our tips for hydrating dry skin.

Why do we have dry skin?

Dry skin is caused by a lack of sebum. Sebum is a fatty film created by the sebaceous glands, which aims to protect the facial skin from external aggressions and to retain the water naturally present in the epidermis. If you have dry to very dry skin, the sebaceous glands have low activity: your skin becomes very sensitive to external aggressions, it loses hydration very quickly because it no longer has a protective film.

With such fragile skin, cold, pollution, UV rays, or unsuitable products can cause irritation, redness, tightness and itching, which is why it is imperative to take care of your dry skin and protect it!

As a solution for dry skin, it is necessary to compensate for the lack of sebum and water by care but also by a good daily hydration. Indeed, our skin reacts a lot to our water consumption. Drinking a lot of water will allow dry skin to refuel, and it’s good for the body!

Dry skin solution: adapted care to protect your skin

For dry skin or very dry skin, you have to be very careful about the care you use. You need rich care, with gentle formulas, which do not risk damaging the already weakened skin. You can turn to parapharmacy or organic ranges, which offer very nourishing treatments based on natural active ingredients: avocado, shea butter, aloe vera.

On a daily basis, remove your makeup with a moisturizer such as cleansing milk or vegetable oil, which is unlikely to dry out the skin. Make-up removal will be a first moisturizing gesture, and a fluid and oily body will allow the skin to be rubbed less with the cotton. Then cleanse your skin with a gentle gel cleanser.

Morning and evening, remember to apply a rich moisturizer. There are very rich night creams that allow to nourish the skin deeply during the night, to find a skin in good shape every morning. If you have very dry skin once or twice a week, apply a moisturizing mask.

Dry skin: a homemade moisturizing mask recipe

To have a soft hydrating and nourishing mask, you can make your dry skin mask yourself. A natural mask that respects your dry skin, even if it is very sensitive! Use the flesh of an avocado, which you mix with lemon juice and two tablespoons of honey. Mix until you get a smooth paste. Leave the mask on for 30 minutes before rinsing off with clean water.

Your skin will be hydrated and nourished in depth. Indeed, avocado is very rich in fatty agents and moisturizing agents as well as vitamins, it is therefore a very good ally for dry skin. If you don’t have an avocado, it can be replaced with a ripe banana.

Dry facial skin: what makeup to use?

To make up your dry skin, be careful to choose cosmetics with fluid and moisturizing formulas. For the foundation, you can choose a hydrant liquid foundation or you can go for BB creams, both moisturizer and foundation. For the concealer, use a liquid concealer and not a stick.

Avoid powders which may suck the little moisture from your skin and give a plaster effect. Go for creamy blushes and illuminators that are easier to apply and richer.
