And as long – at least – that your child has not been to the hairdresser … And since the salons are not going to reopen any time soon, including from the date of deconfinement, you have decided to move on to action. No problem, parents can completely cut their children’s hair, as long as they follow a few rules. Obviously, to preserve the love (and dignity) of your child, out of the question to give him a bowl! Here are our tips for a clean, well-structured haircut for a little boy.
Hardware and installation
Equipment ? “Paper cutter” type scissors. If you have real barber scissors, of course that’s better. Avoid sewing scissors, those for nails, or the model you use for the kitchen, too large and too thick. Also: Unless you want a very short cut, do not use a trimmer.
Installation: from the age of 0 to 2 years, place your little boy in his high chair. While one of the parents cuts the boy’s hair, the other distracts him by telling him a story, for example.
After this age, choose a chair. The ideal occupation for a child? A cartoon on a tablet, quite simply! This will prevent him from moving his head for nothing.
The thing to know: it is preferable to make a cut on slightly damp hair. Indeed, dry hair itches and itches when it goes down the back, under clothing. You’ll avoid a squirming toddler. And you will have a better idea of the length to be cut.
How to cut the strand from the front and the sides?
First step: the front wick. This is not bangs! Head upright, draw a line in the middle, at the front of the skull. Note: do not cut by stretching the hair across the front of the forehead, otherwise you will find your child with a Playmobil type cut! Grasp part of the wick on one side with the comb, then stretch it upward with the index and middle fingers of the other hand. Take the scissors and cut the hair placed above your fingers, in a straight way. Important: do not cut more than half a centimeter at a time. Drop the wick to appreciate the result. And cross-check, if necessary.
Then take care of the sides. With your index and middle fingers, stretch the hair downward, this time, as if to cover the ear. Cut a centimeter below the fingers. Go around the head in the same way.
Cut the hair located on the nape of the neck and finish
To shorten the cut at the nape of the neck, have your child lower their head.
Comb the hair down, following a parting in the middle and then behind. Grasp the hair and stretch the hair to be cut until the fingers are level with the nape of the neck at the implantation. Then cut straight, the scissors parallel to the hair.
It’s time to wash your child and change their t-shirt. You will better see the last long strands that have escaped you.
