Barbel beetle: how to get rid

The barbel beetle is a big problem for people with wooden buildings or country houses. The insect is attracted to wood, which it is able to destroy in a short period of time.

How to get rid of the barbel beetle

Before starting the construction of wooden buildings, boards and beams are treated with a specialized agent based on phosphine gas. It protects the wood and excludes its destruction by pests. But the processing is not always carried out, in this case, measures are taken after the discovery of the barbel beetle.

The barbel beetle prefers to settle on dead wood, turning it into dust

Insect control is carried out using various chemicals – insecticides. There are many different products on the market, among which are distinguished:

  • Fumigants. Available in the form of gases.
  • Intestinal penetration preparations. This includes a variety of baits, which the beetle dies by absorbing in food.
  • Contact action means. They infect the pest by direct contact with the surface of the body.

Effective remedies are “anti-shashelin”, “wood doctor”, “anti-beetle”, “empire-20”, but the best remedy for barbel beetles is “clipper”. It begins its action at the slightest contact with the pest and quickly disrupts the work of all organs of the insect, excluding the possibility of depositing viable eggs. The beetle dies almost instantly.

The use of all chemicals is possible only if the instructions for use are strictly followed.

In order for the processing to give the maximum result, you need to carry it out correctly. The following tips can help:

  • Fragments of wood affected by the beetle must be thoroughly cleaned to a healthy layer, all sawdust and dust must be collected and destroyed. They may contain the eggs of the barbel beetle.
  • The cleaned surface is treated with an insecticidal agent, with the obligatory observance of precautions. At the time of processing, all windows and doors in the room must be closed. For several hours, people and animals are prohibited from returning to the premises.
  • To destroy a pest in hard-to-reach places, you can drill several small holes in the walls and inject a chemical through a thin tube. Then the hole must be sealed with wax. In this case, the concentration of the insecticide will be higher than with conventional treatment, so people and animals are advised to leave the building for 3-5 days.

Chemical preparations for fighting the beetle have a certain degree of toxicity, therefore, processing should be carried out with strict observance of safety rules and instructions for use. And it is better to entrust the processing to specialized services that have all the necessary tools for this.

Preventive measures against the barbel are easier to carry out than to deal with its appearance. Therefore, before moving into a wooden house, it is advisable to carry out its total processing. But if this was not done, then there are many effective tools that will help get rid of the pest forever.
