The origins
The aloe vera leaves have been used since Antiquity. In Egypt, women, and in particular the great Cleopatra, already used them as beauty secret to treat their skin problems. As for the Mayas, they assimilated this plant to a real fountain of Youth.
It is cultivated mainly in the Mediterranean, in North Africa and in some islands in tropical climate.
