Abscess

General description of the disease

It is a pustular rash consisting of pus-filled cavities. They can appear not only on the skin, but also on the internal organs. Pyogenic microorganisms, when in contact with damaged skin or mucous membranes, spread to the brain, liver, other organs and tissues, and a yellow-white focus is formed at the location of their introduction[3].

In the focus of purulent inflammation in the tissues, a purulent cavity is formed, which is separated from healthy tissues by a membrane. In an acute inflammatory process, the amount of pus increases rapidly, and it can break through the membrane.

This infection is faced by women, men and children, this disease has no age and gender.

Types of abscesses

An inflamed purulent focus can form on any part of the body, they are classified depending on their location:

  • boil is an inflammation of the hair follicle, therefore, the place of their location is usually body parts with vellus hair: arms, legs, face or buttocks;
  • felon may be a complication of an ingrown toenail or some kind of injury to the finger, such as a pinprick, cut, or splinter. Inflammation of the tissues of the finger can pass almost imperceptibly and independently, and in some cases requires surgical intervention;
  • carbuncle Is an infectious disease in which several hair follicles and sebaceous glands become inflamed at once and turn into one large abscess. Carbuncles are usually located on the neck, back, face or in the buttocks;
  • hydradenite popularly called bitch udder… It is provoked, as a rule, by inflammation of the sweat glands, less often hydradenitis is located in the groin;
  • appendicular abscess Is a complication of appendicitis. With inflammation of the appendix, an infiltrate is formed, which either dissolves or becomes an abscess;
  • abscess the lung is formed by purulent fusion of the pulmonary parenchyma, as a complication of pneumonia, after a pulmonary infarction;
  • injectable soft tissue abscess may be the result of incorrect injection or infection may occur through non-sterile medical instruments;
  • abdominal abscess provoke injury or inflammation.

The causes of abscesses

An inflamed focus can be provoked by microbes such as Escherichia coli, staphylococci, streptococci. Favorable conditions for the development of purulent inflammation can be:

  1. 1 a weakened immune system;
  2. 2 avitaminosis;
  3. 3 eczema;
  4. 4 chronic diseases;
  5. 5 diabetes;
  6. 6 transferred stress;
  7. 7 tonsillitis;
  8. 8 scabies;
  9. 9 herpes;
  10. 10 psoriasis;
  11. 11 acne;
  12. 12 excess sebum production;
  13. 13 overheating or hypothermia;
  14. 14 insufficient adherence to personal hygiene standards;
  15. 15 a change in the hormonal background;
  16. 16 excessive consumption of sweets and fatty foods.

Symptoms of abscesses

Symptoms may vary depending on the location of the abscess. Usually, in the area of skin lesions, there is initially swelling, redness of the skin, severe pain in the area of inflammation, fever, lack of appetite, weakness, fatigue.

Outwardly, the abscess looks like an oblong pustule, up to 1-1,5 cm in size.

Complications of purulent inflammation

Sometimes patients try to independently get rid of abscesses on the head or on the body by squeezing it with their fingers. This is unacceptable, as pus can enter the blood vessels.

Squeezing out the abscesses before they are fully ripe can lead to the transformation of the disease into a chronic form.

Self-treatment is also dangerous. The application of gels and ointments with a resorbing effect can result in the spread of infection to adjacent tissues or infect adjacent organs.

Prevention of abscesses

To prevent the appearance of abscesses, it is important to adhere to the rules of personal hygiene. It is necessary to timely and correctly treat skin microtrauma.

With a tendency to purulent inflammation, you need to limit the use of fatty foods and sweets, avoid hypothermia, and treat infectious diseases in time.

Treatment of abscesses in official medicine

Treatment of abscesses depends on the stage of the disease. During the infiltration period, ultraviolet irradiation and other physiotherapy procedures are indicated. During the maturation stage, a purulent infiltrate is injected with an antibiotic solution.

For the affected part of the body, it is necessary to create rest, and if antibiotic injections do not work, then the blockade should be repeated until the necrotic rod leaves. The rod can only be removed after it is fully ripe. But, as a rule, more often than not, one blockade is sufficient.

After the abscess opens, treatment should not be stopped. The opened cavity is treated with hydrogen peroxide to remove necrotic masses. After that, it is necessary to apply gauze bandages with Vishnevsky ointment.

In order to prevent vitamin deficiency, it is necessary to take vitamins C, E and group B.

Acute inflammation with fever is often treated with surgery.

Some types of purulent inflammation are also successfully treated in beauty parlors with liquid nitrogen, distilled water injections, chemical peeling, mesotherapy or mechanical facial cleansing.

With the frequent occurrence of abscesses, special attention should be paid to the immune system. In a healthy person, on average, the abscess disappears in 5-6 days.
