4 pain relieving essential oils

When you are in pain, the first instinct is to take medicine from your medicine cabinet. However, there are natural remedies to calm the pain: essential oils.

The power of plants is important and their action on our health is well established. Today, essential oils are on the rise because we are rediscovering their multiple benefits. In particular, they have analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties which effectively relieve pain. Here is the list of those you should have at home:

1. EO of lemon eucalyptus

Rich in citronellal, eucalyptus essential oil is often used to ward off biting insects. But this is not its main virtue. Tests on mice have shown that eucalyptus exerts a pain relieving activity, mainly thanks to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

So, citronellal would inhibit inflammation mediators and soothe feelings of heat who as a result. This ET therefore has calming properties and would relieve joint and muscle pain. It would also have antibacterial, antioxidant and mucolytic properties that would help treat ENT infections. Diluted in a vegetable oil, you will apply it by massaging the affected area.

2. The essential oil of peppermint

Peppermint essential oil is refreshing and numbing: particularly interesting properties for relieving pain. Indeed, menthol gives peppermint EO a strong analgesic power.

Due to its powerful analgesic power, peppermint EO is recommended to relieve pain related to headaches and migraines with an application at the temples at the hairline or on the top of the forehead and in the nape of the neck.

Caution: Peppermint essential oil is not not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women, children under 6 or people with hypertension.

3. The essential oil of clove

Do you suffer from dental pain? Use clove essential oil! Diluted in water, this ET allows you to make a mouthwash with anesthetic properties, ideal for relieving cavities, abscesses, canker sores, gingivitis or toothache

In addition to calming properties conferred on it by eugenol, of which it is rich, clove EO also relieves joint or muscle pain. Diluted in a vegetable oil, you will apply it by massaging the area that hurts you.

Clove essential oil can also be taken orally in case of various infections (parasitic, viral, bacterial).

4. HE of gaultheria

Did you know ? A pharmacist from Grasse, in the South of France, showed that 1ml of wintergreen was stronger than 1,4g of aspirin. Indeed, wintergreen essential oil contains 90% methyl salicylate which when absorbed orally or applied to the skin turns into salicylic acid, which is the same main active metabolite of the drug Aspirin (acetyl salicylic acid).

Wintergreen EO is therefore recommended in case of joint and muscle pain. She is effective in relieving various ailments such as aches, contractures, tendonitis, cramps etc. Diluted in vegetable oil, you will apply it by massaging the affected area.
