Wine tourism strategies in the GWC Assembly and Congress

Tourism activity around wine is increasingly booming, and the great offer that our country presents is a clear lever for economic growth and business entrepreneurship.

On the 9th of November it will be held in the cradle of Rioja, in the city of Logroño, the Wine Tourism Congress, with the motto a strategy for all.

The grounds of the city’s Congress Center, Rioja Forum, will host the presentations of the latest trends in the “wine tourism strategy“And will discuss the”successful models”Which have already created a precedent in this type of leisure activity.

The congress “Wine tourism, a strategy for everyone” will consist of various presentations and workshops, where the representatives of the wineries of Napa Valley, Cape Town, Bordeaux and Spain, they will share with us their experiences in this activity and, above all, the differential factor that it can contribute to wineries, inclusion in this recreational area for visitors.

All lovers of the world of wine are invited to participate, to restaurants, hotels, wineries themselves, travel agencies and especially institutions that want to help promote economic activity in their provinces, helping and disseminating actions that involve oenological tourism.

The congress is immersed in the activities that it develops during the days 8 to 12 of November, the GWC (Great Wine Capitals) General Assembly. This Network of Capitals and Large Vineyards, It is made up of 8 cities that are closely linked with the most important wine regions in the world, and they are:

  • Bilbao-Rioja (Spain)
  • Bordeaux (France)
  • Cape Town (South Africa)
  • Mainz (Germany)
  • Mendoza (Argentina)
  • Porto (Portugal)
  • San Francisco-Napa Valley (EEUU)
  • Valparaiso-Casablanca Valley (Chile)

The BilbaoRioja Committee, which represents us, is made up of the Chambers of Commerce of Álava, Bilbao, La Rioja, the Bilbao City Council and the Rioja Group. In its work of representation is the diffusion of the wineries and companies, regarding their projects and actions that they develop in the field of their activity.

Its mission is very clear, to promote our wine tourism values: architecture, gastronomy, culture, landscape and society.

An International showcase of our Wine and our Places

Within the activities of the congress, the day of the 10th will be allocated to open to visitors Los Technical Tours, visits and meetings that take you to the wineries to get to know them from the inside, tasting and tasting their best value, Wine.

The Tours will depart from the Villa de Laguardia and from Logroño simultaneously, and will arrive at the different destinations with the following themes:

  • Culture and Nobility, visiting the Bodegas Marqués de Murrieta, Finca de

    los Arandinos, Bodegas Campo Viejo.

  • Tradition and family, visiting Bodegas Vivanco, Bodegas Remelluri, Bodegas López de Heredia.

As a preview of the other activities that the GWC Annual Assembly brings together, on November 11 an extremely interesting international tasting will be held at the Azkuna Zentroa, in Bilbao, a former wine warehouse converted into a leisure and culture center.

The act will be paired with a showcooking with chefs from the Best Of group and chefs with Michelin stars.

On the last day of the Assembly, on November 12, the International Best Of Awards will be presented at the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, related to wine tourism actions, carried out in the last year in relation to the activity of restoration, tourism services viticulture and innovative tourism experiences.
