Why low-carb diets are bad for women

The easiest way to quickly lose a few pounds is to forbid yourself to eat sweets and starchy foods, that is, remove all fast carbohydrates from your diet. How can such a decision affect your health and will it give the desired result? Low-carb diets can help normalize metabolism, but will this effect last long and is it worth it to jeopardize your well-being?

  • Thyroid gland

One of the organs that suffers from a lack of carbohydrates is the thyroid gland. It produces two hormones: thyroxine and triiodothyronine, without which the work of the heart, respiration, the nervous system, as well as thermoregulation, metabolism and many other processes, can not do. With a small amount of incoming carbohydrates, the level of production of these hormones is halved! The first symptoms that indicate a malfunction of the thyroid gland: fatigue, weight gain, depressed mood, inability to concentrate.

  • Adrenal

The lack of carbohydrates also affects the work of the adrenal glands, which also regulate hormonal levels. In your body, the hypothalamus, pituitary and adrenal glands together form an axis – this connection regulates mood, stress resistance, immunity, and digestion. With a lack of carbohydrates, the level of cortisol production increases, which disrupts the work of this triple bond. Weakening of the immune system, impotence, apathy and the worst thing is the risk of diabetes.

  • Women’s problems

A lack of carbohydrates can affect the regularity of the menstrual cycle in women and cause the development of amenorrhea. The lack of carbohydrates decreases the level of production of the hormone leptin, which, among other things, is responsible for the beauty and elasticity of the skin.

  • How many carbohydrates to eat

This indicator will be individual for each person, but it should not be lower than 30 percent of all calories consumed per day. Normally, carbohydrates make up 50-80 percent of the total calories (that’s 250-400 grams).

  • What are carbohydrates

The most useful carbohydrates for you are complex carbohydrates, which are rich in vegetables, plants, grains, whole grains and fruits. Do not exclude fast carbohydrates at all, just prefer fruit juices and cereals – they will help your body replenish energy.
