Human papillomavirus
is a causative agent of a viral infection. A large number of people are carriers of human papillomavirus infection without even knowing it. Now medicine knows about 70 subtypes of viruses, and 30 of them cause disease in the anogenital area.
HPV types
Human papillomaviruses are divided into
- вирусы высокого онкогенного риска (типы 16/18/31/33/35/39/45/51/56/58/59/68)
- low oncogenic risk (types 6/11/42/43/44).
Types of lesions caused by human papillomavirus
- Papules (warts) are flat lesions – most often they are caused by oncogenic types of the virus (types 16, 18);
- Acute condylomas have nothing to do with cancer and are caused by non-oncogenic types of human papillomavirus;
- Cervical cancer;
- Latent infection/inactive – with such a lesion there are no visible changes in the infected area;
- Changes (atypical cells) in the cells of the cervix are the first sign that there may be a risk of developing cervical cancer;
HPV Risk Factors
- Sexually transmitted diseases;
- Decreased immunity during pregnancy, multiple births;
- Hormonal disorders;
- Smoking;
- Contact with a virus carrier;
- Beginning of sexual life at an early age;
- A large number of sexual partners.
Treatment of papillomavirus infection
At the Prima Medica medical center, gynecologists will conduct the necessary examinations and prescribe competent treatment.
- For genital warts, treatment is carried out with chemicals or surgical removal. Quite often they disappear without treatment.
- If a human papillomavirus of high oncogenic activity is detected, antiviral treatment, as well as observation with colposcopic and cytological studies.
- If atypical cells are detected in cytological smears, surgical treatment is performed.
