Welcome to the Paleolithic era: a cave restaurant opens in Tokyo

The popular paleo diet, which is based on the diet of our ancestors living in the Paleolithic era, inspired the Japanese architect Ryoji Iedokoro to create an unusual restaurant.

Nikunotoriko is the name of a new Tokyo restaurant, the interior of which resembles the habitats of our ancestors.

The first floor of the two-level building looks like a real cave. Here guests are greeted by a glass table 6,5 meters long, the pattern on which resembles smoke – a very common sight in the Paleolithic era, when food was cooked over an open fire. Glass walls imitate stone caves, and a large mirror creates a sense of infinity.

On the second floor, you can see a stylized forest filled with lush vegetation. Here, laminated panels, located on the floor, create the feeling of walking on the surface of the sand. As many as 126 metal pipes serve as the basis for the stylized trees. By the way, these “trees” also have a practical function, you can hang clothes on them.

A whimsical jungle of pipes and greenery gives the upper floor a special atmosphere. Here the tables are already placed more privately than on the first one. Guests of the restaurant are invited to sit on the floor on pillows around low tables – much like the cavemen used to sit by the fire.

And on the roof of the establishment there is a barbecue area, where you can enjoy a delicious dinner in the open air.

Each floor of the restaurant has an area of 65 sq.m. and accommodates about 20 people. Of course, the establishment specializes in grilled meats and vegetables. According to the creators of Nikunotoriko, with the help of this restaurant, they want to encourage people to forget about the bustle of the city and return to nature.
