Week 37 of pregnancy – 39 WA

Baby’s 37st week of pregnancy

Your baby is 36 centimeters from head to tailbone, and 48 centimeters from head to toe. It weighs approximately 3 kg.

His development

Your baby is well “finished” and perfectly independent. He theoretically has his head down and his arms crossed over his chest. He is now waiting for the right moment to come out. Even though it’s cramped, it still makes a few moves. Regularly during the day, have fun counting the number of his movements. These are very useful breaks, both for yourself and to “connect” to the baby. If you really feel him moving less, if not at all, go to the maternity ward.

The mother’s 37th week of pregnancy

The end of pregnancy is a little strange time for mothers-to-be. You feel like you’ve never been so heavy or so fat. Physically, you tire… You can also be moody. Some women start to want to get rid of their big belly and give birth.

At this point, if you haven’t already, you may lose the mucous plug (a mucus lump) which, during pregnancy, serves to close the cervix and protect the fetus from infection. But that does not mean that childbirth is starting. The mucous plug can be expelled several days before the baby is born.

Our advice

Organize yourself for a possible departure to the maternity ward or the clinic. Your maternity keychain (or maternity suitcase) should be ready, just like the baby’s. Also fill the freezer in preparation for your return home.

Your memo

If you are not married to the father of your unborn baby, have you considered doing an early recognition? You can in fact, together or separately, recognize your child before birth. The process is done in town hall, with an identity document. At the birth of the child, as soon as the mother’s name appears in the birth certificate, maternal filiation is automatic and the mother does not have to take any action. On the other hand, to establish paternal filiation, the father will have to recognize the child. He can do this at the time of the birth declaration, within 5 days of the birth.
