We remove winter things

Farewell winter! For the next six months, we are going to think only about the sultry summer, so for a start, we will remove from sight everything that may remind us of the winter cold.

We hand over fur coats and sheepskin coats to dry cleaning, and then put them in fabric “breathable” covers and in a closet. An anti-moth drug is required (it can be replaced with a sachet with dry geraniums, lavender, wormwood, dried orange peels or scented soap). For especially valuable items of clothing, there are fur refrigerators, where you can turn in things for the whole summer.

Down jackets and nylon jackets are perfectly washed at home – in the gentle cold wash in the washing machine.

Before putting shoes away for seasonal storage, they must be thoroughly washed, dried, cleaned, greased with a protective cream and ventilated. In addition, experts advise to disinfect shoes before long-term storage. To do this, you can use purchased products or disinfect at home: moisten two cotton swabs with vinegar essence and place inside the shoes. Put the shoes themselves in a plastic bag and tie it tightly. In this position, the shoes must be kept for 10-12 hours.

After that, your boots are ready for storage. Insert spreading pads into them or stuff the capes with crumpled newspaper and, putting them in a box, feel free to send them to the closet or to the mezzanine.

To prevent woolen items from shrinking and matting during washing, there are several rules. First, wool does not like long soaking. Secondly, it does not tolerate sudden changes in temperature, it is optimal to wash and rinse wool in + 30 ° C water.

No twists! To get rid of the water, wrap the woolen thing in a terry towel and wring it lightly. Dried unfolded at room temperature.

Curtains of all stripes up to tulle can be dry-cleaned. In addition, the new vacuum cleaners are equipped with a vacuum cleaning function that allows you to remove up to 70% of all dirt without removing the curtains from the curtain rods. There is another option – a dry cleaning service for curtains, which is offered by many cleaning companies. And finally, the most budgetary one is washing by hand or in a washing machine in a delicate wash mode with no spinning.

General rules for washing curtains

Before soaking, the curtains must be thoroughly shaken out of dust (it is best to do this outside, but a balcony will do as well). Before washing, they must be soaked either in plain water or in water with the addition of washing powder – sometimes this procedure should be repeated two or even three times, each time changing the water (it all depends on the degree of pollution). Rinse the curtains thoroughly after washing, otherwise the fabric may burn out if the detergent remains in contact with the sun’s rays.

It is better to wash the windows in slightly cloudy weather, so that the sun glare does not interfere with your assessment of the cleanliness of the glass. Purchased aerosol products are used only at the final stage. First, it is best to wash the windows with warm water with the addition of ammonia (tablespoon per liter). By the way, do not discount old newspapers – the lead contained in the ink will give the glass a shine.

A refreshing shower is prescribed for all flowers after a long winter. If you want to renew an old and ugly plant or divide an overgrown bush, the best time for this is spring, before active growth begins. Each flower has its own preferred breeding methods.

The rest of the plants may need a transplant. The land, which contains all the nutrients for the growth and development of flowers, is depleted over time and your flowers begin to suffer from hunger. A transplant is prescribed for most indoor flowers every two years, and it is in the spring.

But even those flowers that do not require an annual transplant, spring feeding is absolutely necessary in order to grow thicker and bloom more abundantly.

Today, the safest and most affordable way to clean interior textiles (furniture upholstery, curtains, carpets) is vacuum cleaning with a vacuum cleaner. But stubborn stains, adhered and dried particles (for example, chewing gum) are best removed using dry cleaning: dry or wet. Dry cleaning, in turn, is hydrocarbon and perchlorethylene. But you may not remember the last word – you cannot use perchlorethylene at home, as it is toxic. But the hydrocarbon formula is quite safe for health. Wet cleaning of furniture is carried out with aqueous solutions of chemicals or foam. The most effective and gentle method of wet dry cleaning is the so-called water extraction: a cleaning solution is injected under pressure into a cloth or pile and immediately pulled back. The fabric is then washed and dried with cold air to prevent mold and mildew. By the way, this is the best way to clean mattresses, pillows and blankets.

Hostess a note

To save space in your closet, store your clothes in suitcases that have been sitting or idle for most of the year. Remove items that are unnecessary for the season in them. In winter, they can store summer clothes, and in summer, winter clothes.

Even if you tightly close all jars and containers of food, over time, the symphony of aromas from your refrigerator ceases to delight the sense of smell. Unidentified food items fill it with dubious notes. So, it’s time to wash the refrigerator or at least clean the special drain hole inside the chamber (it tends to get clogged). Manufacturers usually recommend doing this procedure once a year.

Folk remedies will help to get rid of the acquired smell: vinegar, baking soda, ammonia, lemon juice and others.

In stores not so long ago, odor absorbers for refrigerators, as well as ionizing cleaners, began to appear. They absorb even the strongest odors of fish, garlic, onions, and at the same time ionize the inner space of the refrigerating chamber.

Book dust is one of the most common allergens today (along with house mites). Allergy symptoms resemble ARVI or ARI: obsessive runny nose, lacrimation, sore throat. Therefore, the doctor may mistakenly prescribe medications for colds that will not bring relief. The peculiarity of allergies is that its symptoms can appear once for an apparently incomprehensible reason, or they can recur from year to year.

To avoid this kind of trouble, you need to keep your books clean.

It is best if they are stored in a closed bookcase behind glass.

Even so, books and bookshelves should be vacuumed at least twice a year. You can use a dry, clean cloth for this: carefully remove all books from the shelves, wipe the inside of the cabinet and dust off the binding and spine.

Seasonal revision

  • Check the preparations remaining after the winter (jam, lecho, pickles, and so on), canned food and cereals.
  • View all cosmetics, first aid kit and personal hygiene products – throw away those that have expired (usually indicated in a special icon on the tube – most often 12 M or 6M – 12 or 6 months).
  • Clean up the workplace: throw away unnecessary and expired contracts, policies, receipts, outdated business cards, etc.

Spring is the best time to get rid of everything old and unnecessary in order to make room for the new. And our home – our living space – also needs a thorough cleaning, even if you are not one of those who easily part with things. For people like you, there are many effective ways. One of them – try to imagine that you are in danger of moving. What will you take with you? Psychologists assure: in everyday life we use no more than 20% of the things around us.
