Wax stain on fabric: how to remove it? Video

A drop of wax on the garment leaves a stubborn stain on the fabric, which gives the impression of being difficult to remove. But in fact, you can get rid of such contamination without resorting to the help of special means.

Wax or paraffin that gets on trousers, elegant blouse or tablecloth cannot be wiped off immediately, you must wait 10-15 minutes. During this time, the wax will cool and harden. After that, it can be cleaned off the fabric by properly wrinkling the dirty area or gently scraping it with a fingernail or the edge of a coin (the wax crumbles very easily). If the stain is large, a not very sharp knife can be used to scrape off the wax layer. Use a clothes brush to brush off wax particles from the soiled item.

This leaves an oily mark on the fabric. It can be removed in several ways.

Removing a candle stain with an iron

Place a paper towel or paper towel that has been folded several times under the stain. Toilet paper will work as well. Cover the stain with a thin cotton cloth and iron it several times. The wax melts easily, and the paper “pillow” will absorb it. If the stain is large, change to a clean cloth and repeat the operation 2-3 more times.

This method is safe even for fabrics that require extra care when ironing: to melt the wax, just put the iron on minimum heat.

After processing with an iron, a barely noticeable mark will remain on the soiled fabric, which will easily come off with a hand or machine wash as usual. It is no longer necessary to additionally process the place of contamination.

Removing the wax trace with a solvent

If the fabric cannot be ironed, the stain can be removed with organic solvents (gasoline, turpentine, acetone, ethyl alcohol). You can also use stain removers designed to remove greasy stains. Apply the solvent to the cloth (for large-scale stains, you can use a sponge; for small stains, cotton swabs or cotton swabs are suitable), wait 15–20 minutes and wipe the stained area thoroughly. Repeat processing if necessary.

Before removing the stain with solvent, check to see if it will ruin the fabric. Choose an area that is invisible when worn and apply the product to it. Leave it on for 10-15 minutes and make sure that the fabric is not faded or deformed

To prevent the stain from spreading, when treating with a solvent or liquid stain remover, you must treat the stain, starting from the edges and moving towards the center. As in the case of melting wax with an iron, it is better to place a napkin under the stain, which will absorb the excess liquid.
