Turning text into a number with the N function

This is one of the most concise Microsoft Excel functions, consisting of just one letter − Ч (N). At the same time, it is very useful, because. performs a simple but important action – turns its argument into a number. In practice, this can be useful, for example, to add a text comment directly to the formula. For this:

  1. Stretch the formula bar vertically to fit more than one line.
  2. Select the cell containing the formula. and place the cursor in the formula bar after the formula.
  3. Press combination Alt+Enterto move to another line within the formula.
  4. Add a function to a formula Ч with a comment as an argument (don’t forget the quotes).

Turning text into a number with the N function

The trick is that if you specify text as an argument of the function N, then it turns into zero, therefore it does not change the result of the original formula in any way, but adds a comment to it.
