Although the perch is considered a close relative of the Pacific grouper, it is still known to us as a ubiquitous trash fish. The prevalence of perch only further increased the love for it among our anglers. Perch can be caught almost everywhere and at any time of the year, and it bites almost everything. Despite the fact that the perch is a predatory fish, there were cases when he pecked at the feeder tackle. When anglers talk about their trophies, the weight of the fish rarely exceeds one or two kilograms, the specimens are larger, this is a rarity. However, there are monsters among the perches.

Record trophies
The standard size of a perch in Russian water bodies does not exceed 1,3 kg. In rare cases, a striped predator reaches 3,8 kg. Four-kilogram specimens are found in the catch of fishermen on Lake Onega and Lake Peipsi. But the lakes of the Tyumen region since 1996 have become the Mecca of anglers hunting for a large predator. This was the case of the capture of the largest perch in Russia by Nikolai Badymer in Lake Tishkin Sor – this is a female, weighing 5,965 kg with a belly full of caviar. It was the largest humpback perch caught in the world.
Another champion winner was caught by Vladimir Prokov from Kaliningrad, the weight of the fish caught in the Baltic Sea on spinning was 4,5 kg.
Dutch fisherman Willem Stolk became the owner of two European records for catching river European perch. His first trophy weighed 3 kg, the second copy pulled 3,480 g.
