Over the breeding of this variety scientists have worked for twenty years. It was possible to get it by crossing a viola (pansy) and a rose. Prior to that, it was believed that it was impossible to grow blue roses due to the lack of corresponding enzymes in rose petals.

In the language of flowers, a blue rose at different times meant different things. For example, during the Victorian era, the blue rose was interpreted as an attempt to achieve the impossible. In the works of Tennessee Williams, finding a blue rose meant finding the purpose of life, and in Rudyard Kipling’s poem, a blue rose is a symbol of death.
