The diet that boosts your fertility

Healthy eating to get pregnant

What is the diet before pregnancy?

Directly coming from Great Britain and the United States, this pre-conceptual nutrition consists of absorb as many vitamins and minerals as possible. They are the ones who keep our bodies running at full speed, especially when it comes to having a baby. Indeed, a nutritional deficit can be at the origin of an organic problem. To put the odds on your side, do not hesitate to offer this diet to your companion. It is important to protect your body as well as your own.

Food has an impact on the quality of sperm. A study published in 2012 in the journal “Fertility and Sterility” had shown that an intake of vitamins C, E, zinc and folic acid, made it possible to improve the quality of sperm in men aged 44 and over. Another, more recent investigation concluded that the high consumption of processed meats, especially sausage or bacon, reduced fertility. Note that the best is to start the diet six months before conception, to reduce the load of toxic products and replenish micronutrient stocks.

Antioxidants for eggs and sperm

Betacarotene, vitamin C or polyphenols: these are antioxidants that should be favored. They reduce all the toxins that cause your reproductive form to falter. They are found in abundance in fruits and vegetables. As to selenium, it helps remove heavy metals, such as mercury or lead. This antioxidant is part of the composition of semen. Some authors even believe that it would protect eggs and sperm from chromosomal damage. It can be consumed regularly in fish, eggs, meat, and in small quantities in cheeses. Vitamin E is also important. It protects cell membranes from oxidation. It is present in fats such as oil, butter, and in significant quantities in wheat germ oil.

Avoid zinc deficiencies

In both women and men, zinc improves the production of testosterone, which is the libido hormone. It is mainly found in oysters and liver. On the man side, zinc has a key role in the synthesis of sperm, and a lack is directly associated with a decrease in sperm. 60% of men lack zinc. On the woman’s side, zinc prevents miscarriages at the start of pregnancy as well as malformations. 75% of women do not receive two-thirds of the recommended daily allowance. So indulge yourself with a nice platter of oysters every now and then.

B vitamins for miscarriages

The vitamin B9 and B12 would also prevent the risk of neurological damage to your baby. These vitamins are consumed in asparagus, yeasts, spinach for B9, but also in liver, fish, eggs, chicken and cow’s milk for B 12. Are you a vegetarian? Those who only consume fruits and vegetables in their diet must rectify the situation. Indeed, without supplementation, lack of meat can lead to zinc and vitamin B12 deficiency.

Note that estrogen-progestogen increases vitamin B deficits, especially for women who have been on the pill for many years. If so, compensate.
