Summer is the time for salads

When it’s hot outside all day, few people want to come home after a hard day and gorge themselves on heavy food – although, in truth, everyone can be expected from our person. Nevertheless, nature itself is trying to set us on the right path: when, if not in summer, the counters of markets and shops begin to burst with fresh vegetables and fruits that not only look like real ones, but finally! – have real taste.

With a variety of different salad greens, the situation is no worse. What does it mean? Only one thing: summer is the time for salads. As you all know, the salad had to go through difficult trials before it became a full-fledged guest of our table. But even now, many of us will benefit from a few tips on how to prepare a salad so as to get not only pleasure, but also our portion of vitamins and health. So:

  • You probably know very well that nutritionists recommend consuming at least three servings of fruits and vegetables a day. How many of you adhere to this rule? .. Yes, that’s it. What can we say about children. Salad is a great way to make things right. One serving of salad can contain one, two or even more servings of vegetables.
  • If you have a choice, go for leaves that are more nutritious – spinach or romano are just such varieties.
  • Another way to make salad even healthier is with sprouts. Sprouted mustard, radish, watercress, etc. – a real storehouse of nutrients and vitamins.
  • If possible, use several different types of greens in your salad at the same time. There is no nutritional secret here, it just tastes better. For the same reason, you shouldn’t be limited to one or two varieties of vegetables.
  • Ready-made dressings cannot be used. This is an axiom. Instead, turn on your imagination and make your own, unique dressing for this particular salad. It’s the same with mayonnaise – you can’t use a purchased one, but homemade is prepared in five minutes.
  • Salad as a main course is a great trick to keep your body lean. In case you decide to take such a step, you can “strengthen” the salad with protein. Eggs and bacon are best with slices of chicken or beef, or better yet, beans and legumes.
  • Careful with fat! For some reason, it is believed that salad is by definition a light food, and real “fat bombs” fall on the table. We will go the other way: we will not overdo it with cheese and similar fatty foods, as well as with dressing.
  • When coming up with your salad, do not hesitate to refer to someone else’s experience and use long-known winning combinations of tastes. For example, a salad with salty cheese or ham will only benefit if you add a little honey to the dressing.
