Straseni grape: variety

Grape “Strashensky” is a large-fruited, hybrid variety of delicacies, bred in the 80s. It is popular with gardeners and summer residents, since it does not require increased attention to itself and is famous for its high taste. Let’s consider the variety in more detail and talk about how to grow the variety yourself.

“Strashensky” grapes are distinguished by strong bushes and high susceptibility to cold weather. It is easy to grow, since cuttings and seedlings take root rather quickly in a new place and the plant develops rapidly, delighting with the first harvest a year after planting.

Other advantages of table culture include disease resistance, high yields and large juicy fruits. It is considered to be medium-ripe, since the growing season lasts from 120 to 145 days.

The bunches are massive, elongated, the average weight is 1000 grams, but can reach 2000 grams. The berries are round, dark blue, with juicy pulp and thin skin.

The only disadvantage of the variety is that the berries are poorly transported and deteriorate during long-term storage.

If you decide to grow this variety on your site, you need to do this in the fall or spring. Consider the basic recommendations regarding planting and care:

  1. Give preference to well-lit areas with fertile soil.
  2. Pay attention to the quality of the seedlings – they should not be dry and damaged.
  3. When planting, the soil should be moist, the approximate depth of the planting holes is 60-80 cm.
  4. Take care to create drainage, as in strong constant humidity, the root system can begin to rot and the plant will die.
  5. Be sure to keep the distance between plants, it must be at least 2,5 meters.
  6. Typically, vineyards are arranged in rows.

Once planting is complete, it is important to properly care for the plants. In order for the grapes to grow vertically, they need to be tied up. Pruning is also necessary, in which a sufficient number of stepsons should remain on the bush, from which leaves will form in the future.

During the period when the berries begin to set, the grapes are fed with mineral fertilizers. Watering is done several times a week.

Since “Strashensky” is famous for its huge clusters of fruits, during cultivation there may be a problem with uneven ripening of berries. To prevent this from happening, the brushes must be thinned out.

Remember, the culture is unpretentious and rarely gets sick, so it will not cause much trouble. If all conditions are met and the plant receives the required amount of nutrients, you will enjoy a rich, juicy harvest of dark, sweet berries.
