Broken nose

A fracture of the nasal bones is one of the most common injuries. A nasal fracture can be open (the skin over the area of injury is damaged, bones or their fragments may be visible) and closed (the skin is intact).

Symptoms of a nasal fracture

You may have a broken nose if:

  • There is swelling of the face
  • You feel pain in the nose area and when you feel your nose
  • The shape of the nose has changed
  • Bruises formed around the nose and under the eyes
  • Breathing through the nose is difficult
  • There is blood/mucous discharge

Nasal fracture – diagnosis

When diagnosing, an ENT doctor may use methods such as:

  • Initial inspection
  • Rhinoscopy
  • endoscopy
  • X-ray

Nose reduction

Do not straighten your nose yourself! You can injure soft tissues with bone fragments, or adjust them incorrectly – this will distort the shape of the nose and make breathing difficult. Contact an ENT doctor!

When realigning the nose, local anesthesia is usually used, and the procedure itself is performed instrumentally. It is important to know!!!

The nose is straightened either during the first 14 hours after the fracture, or when the swelling subsides. The nose can be straightened using closed reduction no later than XNUMX days after the fracture, as callus begins to form.

To prevent such consequences of a fracture as a change (curvature) in the shape of the nose or breathing problems, consult a doctor in a timely manner.
