Shellac is a hybrid of nail polish and nail gel that is odorless and highly resistant compared to regular nail polish, and is also cured by a special lamp light. This is a lifesaver for those women who do not like extended nails and at the same time want to keep the nail polish as long as possible. And if earlier shellac was made only in the salon, today it can also be applied at home.

Shellac application technology

To apply shellac on your nails at home, you will need:

  • sanding nail file
  • degreaser for nails
  • Shellac base coat
  • Shellac color gel polish
  • Shellac top coat
  • lint-free wipes
  • liquid for removing the sticky layer from shellac
  • 36 W UV lamp

Work over the nail plate with a sanding file to remove the shine. Then treat your nails with a special degreaser or, at worst, acetone. Apply a base coat to your nails and cure it in a UV lamp for 40 seconds.

In order for the shellac to lay down perfectly, you should definitely do a high-quality manicure.

  • Then apply the first coat of color gel polish and cure it in the lamp for about 2 minutes. Apply a second coat to brighten the color and dry it also for 2 minutes

Then apply Shellac Topcoat to painted nails and cure in a lamp for 40-60 seconds. Remove the sticky layer with a lint-free cloth soaked in a suitable liquid. If this is not done, everything will constantly stick to the nails.

Shellac removal technology

To remove shellac, you will need:

  • special liquid for removing shellac
  • cotton wheels
  • shellac remover pads

These funds can be replaced with acetone and ordinary foil.

Saturate a cotton pad with shellac remover, place it on your nail and wrap your finger in this place with a special pad. Repeat the procedure with all fingers. After 10 minutes, remove the cotton pads and remove the remaining shellac with a wooden stick. It is more convenient to first remove the nail polish from one hand, and then from the other.

What you need to know about shellac

It is not easy to apply shellac even if you have a lot of experience, since it must immediately lie on the nail perfectly, otherwise you will have to wash it in the way described above and repeat the procedure from the very beginning. That is why, for the first time, it is better to apply shellac in a delicate pastel shade, then move on to bright colors and only then try to make a jacket. All of this is time-consuming.

Despite the fact that shellac lasts for a long time, sometimes a piece of the coating can break off, which will ruin the whole manicure.

In order not to repaint your nails because of this, it is better to get a simple varnish of the same color, which will update your manicure for a while.

Shellac is not considered harmful, but you cannot use it as much as you like. It can be done twice in a row, and then it is better to take a break for two weeks. Then your nails will be beautiful, firm and won’t flake off.
