Severely itchy blisters (vesicles) of herpes zoster appear as a consequence of a relapse of the viral infection of the herpes virus Varicella-zoster, which remains in the body for life after a child has had chickenpox.

Course of the disease

First of all, there is a burning sensation in reddened areas of the skin with painful sensations. A clear line of emerging vesicles can then be discerned, most often running in a circle from the back to the chest. In this case, shingles is located only on one side of the body. Exactly the same location of lichen on the face. Poor general health and increased body temperature are possible.

When to call a doctor

The next day, if you suspect that the blisters that have arisen are a manifestation of the herpes zoster virus infection. Consult a doctor – a pediatrician, infectious disease specialist or dermatologist – within a day if shingles appears on the face, as it can threaten vision and hearing; or if shingles of any location is accompanied by severe discomfort.

Doctor’s help

For shingles affecting the eye and ear area, as well as for people with weakened immune systems, antiviral drugs should be prescribed; For severe pain, painkillers are prescribed.

Your help to a sick child

To treat vesicles of herpes zoster, the same drugs are used as for the treatment of chickenpox. Dry your baby’s skin with a cool towel, add chamomile extract for bathing, and dress your baby in loose cotton clothes.
