Seasonal Depression – Our Doctor’s Opinion

Seasonal Depression – Our Doctor’s Opinion

As part of its quality approach, Passeportsanté.net invites you to discover the opinion of a health professional. Catherine Solano, general practitioner, gives you her opinion on the seasonal depression :

Seasonal depression is a real depression, an illness that occurs at the same time each year, in the fall or winter, and continues until the following spring. It is neither laziness nor weakness of character.

In the event of depression (seasonal or not), physical exercise is always beneficial. It has even demonstrated a greater effect than that of antidepressants in the long term and on the prevention of recurrence. And it is of course compatible with drugs.

Consult your doctor if you have signs of seasonal depression.

The treatment, usually light therapy, is simple, effective, and free from serious side effects.

Moreover, even without going as far as seasonal depression, if you feel sadder, less dynamic in winter, a light therapy lamp can sometimes do a lot of good!
