Rowley’s rosehip care at home
Rowley’s groundwort is often called the poetic name “string of pearls” because of its cascading shoots with ball-shaped leaves. Indoors, it is most often grown as an ampelous plant.
Rowley’s Rowley description
Most of all, the ground plant is appreciated for its original appearance and decorative greenery.
Plant characteristic:
- thin filamentous shoots up to 1 m long;
- fragile green leaves in the form of balls up to 10 mm in diameter;
- long thick peduncles;
- inflorescences-baskets of tubular pinkish flowers with a pleasant aroma of cinnamon.
The groundwort is a poisonous flower. With its unusual leaves that resemble berries, it attracts kids. Therefore, it is better not to grow it in homes where there are preschool children.
The plant loves diffused light. The flower can grow on a sunny windowsill, but in this case it must be shaded in the hot midday hours. On the north window, the plant feels bad due to lack of light, its stems stretch out, become pale and brittle. High temperatures provoke leaf fall. In winter, the grower needs to provide a rest period.
The optimum temperature in summer is 22-25 ° C, in winter 13-15 ° C.
In summer, watering should be abundant, but not excessive. It is impossible to fill the groundwort, otherwise the roots and stems will rot. In winter, watering should be reduced, making sure that the earthen lump does not completely dry out. It is better to water with settled water. The soil should be nutritious and loose. You can purchase a ready-made mixture for succulents or prepare the substrate yourself from sand, brick chips, leaf and peat soil.
Transplantation and reproduction of Rowley’s rosemary
Young seedlings need to be replanted every spring, adults – as needed. Since the leaves and roots are very fragile, the procedure must be carried out very carefully. If the plant is old, with bald stems, it is better not to replant it, but to renew it.
It is very easy to propagate the rootwort by cuttings or layering. Sections of shoots just need to be dug in a small pot and watered constantly. The roots will appear within 7 days.
The process of propagation by layering is even easier. Next to the mother plant, you need to put a new pot and put several shoots in it, slightly sprinkling them with earth. Once the cuttings have taken root, they can be cut from the mother plant.
Caring for a Rowley rosewort at home does not bring much difficulty if you immediately provide it with comfortable conditions.
