Rimming: all you need to know about this still taboo practice

Rimming is a little-known and often taboo oral sex practice. However, it provides intense sensations, thanks to the many nerve endings present in the area. Discover our tips on how to give pleasure by stimulating the anus and how to do a rimming.

What is a rimming?

Rimming is an oral sex practice that involves stimulating your partner’s anus with the tongue. Oral-anal sex is as much present in men as in women, in heterosexual as well as homosexual couples. The rimming is also known under the name of “rose leaf”, in particular in texts which date from Antiquity.

Rimming can be a preliminary to sodomy, since it lubricates the anal area with saliva and / or lubricant. Like all anal practices, rimming requires you to lubricate the area well upstream, so that the caresses are easier. The rimming can be performed externally (kissing and caressing with the mouth and tongue) and internally (penetrating with the tongue).

The anus, a major erogenous zone

We do not always know it but the anus is part, like the sexual organs such as the clitoris or the penis, of the erogenous zones. If the latter two are said to be “primary”, that is to say which are highly sensitive, the anus is considered secondary. Thus, caresses, kisses or sucks on it provide intense pleasure.

It is generally considered that the secondary erogenous zones, including the anus, lead less systematically to orgasm when stimulated alone. This is obviously a generality and does not apply to everyone. It is therefore quite possible to enjoy thanks to stimulation of the anus, after rimming or sodomy, for example.

Likewise, multiple stimulation of different secondary erogenous zones can also easily lead to orgasm, due to the correlation of sensations.

Differentiate the internal and external area of the anus

The outer anal area is the edges of the entrance to the anus, while the inner area is the inside of the anus, which can be penetrated. These two areas contain many blood vessels. Likewise, they also have a lot of nerve endings, which makes them highly sensitive places. We can therefore compare the anus to a clitoris, in terms of sensitivity. Rimming is also a practice close to cunilingus, and the techniques of one may be suitable for the other.

Internally, the nerves in the anus accurately capture feelings of tension, which is why sodomy, and back-and-forth movements, are particularly popular. The outer zone more precisely captures the sensations of friction. Thus, the anus offers a relatively wide variety of sensations and feelings.

How to do a rimming?

The rimming allows both to stimulate the external and internal zone of this one. The ideal is to start by licking the edges of the opening before wanting to penetrate the anus with your tongue. Indeed, it is necessary that the person is sufficiently relaxed and excited so that the penetration is done easily.

You can vary the forms of caressing: you can lick the entrance to the anus from top to bottom, tickle it with your tongue, or even kiss the outer area with your lips. Likewise, you can alternate between finger or oral penetration and stroking with your tongue. The combination of the two stimulates both the external and internal areas.

Some tips and precautions

The first thing to consider during anal practice is lubrication. This is because, unlike the vulva or the penis, the anus does not produce lubricating liquid, and the area is therefore naturally dry even if the person is aroused. It is therefore recommended to use a lubricant on the entire area before starting any practice.

Finally, do not forget that the anus is an area that can carry germs, because of its proximity to the digestive system. Thus, it is necessary to respect certain rules of hygiene to avoid the transmission of bacteria from the anus to the vulva for example, and to clean the area well between each practice.
