Carps are caught on different types of bait, both animal species in cool water and vegetable species in warm water are popular. Barley for bream works great in the summer, at the beginning of autumn, when the days are still warm, this type of bait is also relevant. Among other things, it is this cereal that is often used to prepare bait at home.

There are a lot of cooking methods, each angler has his own, but not every pearl barley porridge has the same effect on bream. Subtleties and secrets will be considered further in more detail.

Choice of cereals

In order for the bait or bait to get the right consistency, you need to learn how to choose the groats themselves. Fishermen with experience know that not every supermarket is suitable for such purposes.

Barley is nothing more than barley grain after primary processing, there are several ways to prepare it specifically for fishing purposes. Groats are steamed in a thermos and boiled according to different methods, which one to give preference to depends on many factors. The best option for fishing, which can be prepared in different ways, is:

  • with light grains, this is exactly the color that the fresh one, which was stored for no more than a year in warehouses, will have;
  • all grains should be approximately the same size, then during the cooking process they will cook at the same time;
  • the package should not contain other additives, garbage, and especially bugs.

In all other respects, you should rely on the manufacturer, it is better to take goods from a trusted one.

Dark barley grains are not suitable for making baits and baits for fishing, they will have to be cooked for a very long time, but they still cannot be brought to the desired softness.

Advantages and disadvantages

Barley for fishing purposes has been used for a long time, for some it is the best type of homemade bait, while others like to fish with barley as a bait on a hook.

In each of the above types of cereals has its own disadvantages and advantages, then we will consider them in more detail. The benefits include:

How to cook

Barley is often used for fishing, and many people know how to cook for bream. However, not everyone and not always gets the bait or attachment of the desired quality. Experienced anglers have their own secrets and special ingredients, thanks to which the product turns out as it should.

Steaming in a thermos

This method will allow you to end up with pearl barley as a hook attachment, and you don’t need to invent anything special. For steaming you will need:

  • thermos, with a capacity of 0,5 l;
  • tablespoon;
  • glass.

From the products we choose barley itself and stock up on boiling water. The process is carried out like this:

  • boil a little more than 2 glasses of water in a container;
  • open the thermos, check that it is clean;
  • separately in a bowl measure 2 tbsp. l. barley;
  • a clean thermos is doused with boiling water to warm the flask;
  • fall asleep cereal;
  • pour 2 cups of boiling water;
  • clog tightly.

After 1-1,5 hours, the cereal will increase in volume and will be completely suitable for use.

When steaming in a thermos, no flavorings are added, already prepared cereals are dipped in a dip or attractant.

This method of preparation is often used immediately before leaving for a pond, already on the shore, barley is removed from a thermos, excess liquid is drained, if any, dried on cloth or sprinkled with breadcrumbs.

Cooking in a saucepan

If there is time, then it is better to cook the grits on the stove in a saucepan, so you get a sufficient amount for bream both for bait and for hooking.

They do it like this:

  • a pre-measured number of grains is poured into a prepared container, namely a saucepan;
  • fill with water, which should be 5 times larger in volume;
  • put on fire and bring to a boil;
  • as soon as the contents of the pan boil, the fire must be reduced to a minimum and left to languish;
  • after 40-50 minutes, the pan is removed from the heat and wrapped in a terry towel for at least 5 hours.

In this way, it is better to cook cereals in the evening and leave them wrapped up for the night, but in the morning go fishing for bream with ready-made grain.

During the cooking process, you can add anise grains, cinnamon in a stick, cardamom, a couple of clove buds to the pan. Spices will become excellent flavors, on the pond you will no longer have to fool around with this. It is imperative to dry barley before use; for this, it is poured onto newspapers sent in several layers or onto a terry towel. Before being sent to the container, sprinkle with dry semolina or oatmeal.

Super fast cooking

This cooking method is not known to everyone, only experienced anglers know that without a thermos, barley can be quickly steamed to the desired softness. So, everything goes like this:

  • pour one part of the cereal into the pan;
  • pour three parts of water;
  • put on fire and let boil;
  • the fire is reduced to a minimum and boiled for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally;
  • after this time, they are removed from the fire and wrapped in old warm clothes.

In this form, cereals are taken for fishing, already on the shore, you can add vegetable oil, anise drops or other flavors that will improve the bite.

These are the main methods for preparing barley for fishing, and the first will allow you to use the grains only as bait on the hook, the second and third are suitable for driving feeders, but other ingredients will need to be added to them.

Additives for porridge

Barley for bream: we found out how to cook, but in this form it does not always work. What needs to be added to make a steamed grain or porridge more attractive to the inhabitants of the reservoir?

For each fish, its own smell is acceptable, bream loves not all of the presented ones. To accurately get a trophy, you need to know which flavors to use at what time of the year.

To add volume and give a smell to pearl barley as a bait, use:

  • sunflower cake;
  • breadcrumbs;
  • boiled millet;
  • confectionery waste;
  • cookie fight;
  • purchased bait mixtures.

Additives should be poured carefully, a large number of ingredients with different smells can only scare away the fish.

Self-brewed syrups are often used as fruit flavoring. Raspberry, apricot, strawberry and mulberry will work great. They are used in small quantities, as they are concentrated.
